I'm starting a battle blog to detail the (un)life and trials of my Undead Brittoinal Knight Keitto D. Grimm. To sum up the fluff really fast, He was a Brettoinan Lord who fell in love with an woodelf spell singer. He they were maried even though he had been promised to another. A seige ended in the death of his father and wife. Not willing to give up his love to death. he rode what was left of his forces into the very gates of the gods in the chaos wastes. Now he has returned with the intact soul of his bride, the souls of all of them damned forever. And boy is he pissed.
This battle was a 1500 between my Vampire counts and The high elves. As I was prepared for a 2250 battle I had to chop my list down, this was also my first fantasy game as I am a 40k player,I'm pretty sure most of you know how this is going to end .

My spells were Curse of years raise dead and gaze of nagash
Set up was from left to right ten man skeleton unit with blooddrinker vamp 10 man skeleton spears with tomb sword unit, ten man skeleton, black knights with cairn wraths in ruins and spirit hosts holding my right flank
His setup was archer unit, chariot, spear unit, great swords, and the other archer unit mage and bolt thrower parked on a hill to my far right.
VC turn one. I get some raise skeletons off, curse of years is dispelled. I learn High elves drain one magic dice to use as dispell dice. all units move up ready to tackle the living
HE turn one. Chariot starts it's flanking run arrows and bolts shatter bones around the undead army, dragonprinces keep with the unit blocks for now, drain magic and wrath of kain are dispelled.
Turn two VC Black knights charge dragon pinces who pass thier fear check. I find out that cav units get ranks at 5 and not 4 The High elves let me reform to 5 in an act of mercy. I then lern that they have magic armor and magic weapons, and always strike first. Combat is brutal, with me losing 6 ( I forgot the bsb within 12 rule, all battle) and him losing one. The undead horses didn't have brains so didn't think to even attack. and the dragon prince's horses were to buzy wondering why the skeleton horses looked funny to kick them. The Wraiths charges the great swords elves who opted to flee. Everything passed thier Terror check, the spirit hosts were too busy haunting the ruins and forgot to move. only two of my raise spells get off, everything else fails to cast on my bad rolling.
Turn two HE. Sensing blood in the water the High elves surge forward, the sharot moves to by back field, ready to flank the Blood drinker vamp and his skeletons. aroorws and bolts don't do much damags thank goodness. the black knights get hammered and the dragon knights move a little deeper into my lines. All high elf spells are dispelled.
Turn Three VC. It's crunch time for the boney ones. I can still pull this game out if just a few of my plans go my way. They don't. I fist stard by keeping the Blood drinker Vamp in the unit and reforming them to take the charge from the chariot. The rulebook states that you han just keep charators with different bases to the side of the unit and just cout them as being in the unit, but I forgot I was doing that, thus locking that vamp out of the rest of the battle. My tomb sword vampire failed his charge by half an inch. I fald to cast curse of years and gaze of nagash and all but one raise spell. The wraiths now can't flank the spears for fear of combat rez, so they cleave into the dragon princes, who pass thier fear. The banshee wail fails to do damage(again) and the dragon princes still have magic weapons and armor. combat sees me down to the vamp and a wraith, although I take an toll on the dragon princes redusing them to 2 ( looking back not so many should have died). Mercifully the turn ends before anything else can go wrong.
HE turn three. The chariot Chugs in with just one impact hit. Victory slips from me as I can only tie combat. I have hope if I can up my combat res I can auto break the chariot who will flee off of the table edge. The Elf spearmen slam into the tomb sword vamp and his skeletons. Seeing every elf killed by the vamp rip off it's own skill and join the skeletons, the Elf camp does the smart thing and flees a challenge. Combat sees me lose a few skeletons. The dragon princes kill all but the ether vampire who still hasn't remembered she is the bsb. all spells are dispelled. The skeleton unit not incobat takes a lot of arrows, it's down to 6 models.
VC turn four the sprit host move up to wipe the hill clear of the living. All combat has minor losses for me. all spells go to raising skeletons with moderate gains. The dragon knights finish the vampire to my surprise, they are in the perfect range to hit the sprit hosts gunning for the mage. I tie the chariot combat again(DAMN IT) and the HE Spearmen fluff thier attacks, If my tomb sword vampire can get to kills, they will need to roll insane courage because they will be outnumbered as well. I fluff and end up taking a minor loss instead.
HE turn 4. All combats continue to drag out. The Spearman champ doesn't flee this time and sure enough ripps off his flesh and joins the walking dead.
The dragon princes slam into the spirit hosts....you know what happens, they are the WHFB ghostbusters. I just manage to stop drain magic. the unengaged skeleton unit suffers more arrows.
VC and turn five. I'm still in it, I can still win, I'm just one good combat and curse of years away, Chin up and back at em lads. I fail in combat. Bad. I suffer 6 bone crushing defeats (pun intended) in game turn five, one after another. The tomb sword vampire unit is acutally all elf skeletons at this point (I love that blade soo much). all units are under 5 models and the spirit host is down to it's last base
VC turn six I'm still hanging on in the combats, raising fails me again for the final time, I'm just trying to hang on till the end of the game now. Undead don't know the meaning of quit...or much anything else being mindless and all. the blood drinker vamp's unit is shattered, and having not lifted a single finger or cast a single offenceve spell, he turns tail and runs, he's gonna have some 'Splaining to do the Undead lord. The Tomb sword vamp is a trooper though, rasing four mor skeletons and Tomb blading 2 more. the spirit hosts base has a wound left.
HE turn six. The spirit hosts dies. The tomb blade vampire finnally crumbles with all of his unit. The unengaged skeleton unit is shot to one skeleton. This skeleton is the last undead model on the table. He avoids all of the blows of the skilled elves, and in one last act of spitfulness cuts the head off of the nearest elf. Satisfied he crumbles. The field is clear of undead.
Foe of the match: Dragon princes. WTF PWN on horseback, I don't know what to do against them.
Hero of the match. Viktus the bone lord (tomb blade vampire) I'm glad I made him the general. The skeleton at the end gets a mention and an upgrade to unit champ.
Eternal damnation: Druakus. That damn blood drinker vampire, he let victory slip out of my hands so many many times.
Well it was a start and fun game and I learned a lot. Don't worry this sacrifice let Keitto and the rest of his forces escape the High elves, though I doubt he willl ever let Druakus be more than the unit champ for the blood knights ever again.
Stay tuned for the next Undead adventure.

Thanks for the read. Hard luck on the loss, but sounds like you had a good time of it anyways.
For what it's worth, HE do not by default take one of your power dice- that's a specific item he had in there somewhere. I've not got any games against High Elves in this edition, so I can't provide too many recommendations.
One thing that comes to mind though, is a unit of raised zombies, summoned to redirect their overrun, with a follow up charge in to their flank. No cav unit much cares for that.
Definitely looking forward to your next write-up!
