Hello...I joined up recently, as I am getting a little bored with websites limited to a single theme.
I play Space Marines, and have started painting a small Ork army. However, I rarely play, and spend all my time painting.
Fire away!

Thanks!
I generally prime white, and build color from there. To make it simple, if I have a color, we'll say blue, I select a color near the lighter end of the gradient I wish to paint. For instance, #1 might be a very dark blue (maybe Midnight Blue <GW> ), #2 a medium dark blue, #3 a medium blue, #4 a light blue, and #5 would be a near white variant...like SW Gray, or Ice Blue <GW> . I'll lay down a few layers of my base coat using the #4 color, and then shade with 3, 2, 1 from there. Then I go back, and clean it up during my highlights with #'s 3, 4, & 5 as a final touch.
In reality, I don't stick with blues on that scale...and there may be a few paints, or 10 different colors...it just depends. I'll generally use purples to shade blue, reds to shade greens, and so on. After I get my color down, I'll glaze in nuances.

There's also a thriving community in Austin if you're around here.
Welcome.
