I am thinking of a chaos marine army. I thought about it and I cant decide whether to get Slaanesh, Nurgle, Khorne or Tzeentch. My personal favourites (based on looks and fluff) are Nurgle and Slaanesh.

Also, If I go for nurgle (favourite at the moment) should I spend my money on the 7 metal Deathguard pack that GW offers or just buy and paint some normal csm as deathguuard?

So can you guys tell me what youor personal preferences are and why they're so good???

Never, ever, ever buy from GW. Support your local Internet Store on Ebay. . . .

Buy regular marines, paint them white, and call them pre-Heresy with CSM rules. (Buy the AOBR marines, cheap, easy, spend money on the vehicles)

Nurgle - T5 FNP troops ftw.

And you get to have your army lead by a giant piece of poo!

The 7 pack is nice as it already has most of what you need and look the part without conversion. Pre-heresy marines had older armor than what is in the CSM box as well as a distinct lack of adornments from 10,000 years in the warp.

The metal Death Guard box is so so,be aware that the metal minis are smaller than the plastic CSMs.
Personaly,I prefered using the plastic CSM kit to convert my Death Guard,if you purchase 2 boxes of CSM + 1 CSM legs/torso you can make 3 sqauds of 7 PMs,not to mention it's much more fun to convert your own PMs.
Also, any "adornments" on the plastic CSM can quickly be filed away.

Iron Warriors are the best, duh!

Let's go over this proper for the noob:

Khorne, Nurgle, Slaneesh, and Tzeentch are the 4 chaos gods.

There are 9 Space Marine Legions that turned traitor, followed Horus, worshiped chaos, attacked the Emperor, and then fled to the Eye of Terror. They are:
These 4 Legions follow a specific god
The World Eaters (devoted to Khorne)
The Thousand Sons (devoted to Tzeentch)
The Death Guard (devoted to Nurgle)
The Emperor's Children (devoted to Slaneesh)
These 5 legions are said to "Undivided", that is they as a whole do not follow any one god
The Iron Warriors
The Alpha Legion
The Word Bearers
The Night Lords
The Black Legion (formerly the Sons of Horus, formerly the Luna Wolves)

All the Wolder Eaters are considered to be Khorne Bezerkers, but not all Bezerkers are World Eaters.
All the Death Guard are Plague Marines, but not all Plague Marines are Death Gaurd.
Thousand Sons are 1000 Sons. No other legion can claim this unit entries' skills/stats.
Not all Emperor's Children are Noise Marines, and not all Noise marines are Emperor's Children.

some examples:
It is not uncommon for members of the Black Legion of follow the path of Slaneesh and become noise marines. It is not unheard of for members of the Iron Warriors who enter the breech in sieges to follow the Blood God and become Khorne Bezerkers.

There are also many other Chapters of Space Marines who have turned traitor after the Horus Heresy. They are commonly referred to as renegades. Most famous of these is the Astral Claws Chapter lead by the infamous Huron Blackheart. The chapter has also taken in many other renegades from numerous other chapters and is collectively knows as The Red Corsairs.

If you want to use Plauge Marines in your army, they do not have to be Death Guard, but can be members of any undivided legion of renegade chapter that have devoted themselves to Nurgle. As for models, if you do not wish to purchase the GW Death Guard, any marine or chaos marine can be substituted as long as there is enough modification (conversion) to show the bloated body, festering sores, and open wound that signify the Mark of Nurgle, as well as Nurgle iconography (three circles). Happy hunting, may the gods smile upon you as you kill without mercy!

Trust me, im aware of this. The thing is that IMO, Undivided is a bit "bland". There is no theme or special weappons or anything. Undivided get no upgrades (Khorne get extra WS and A, Slaanesh get extra I and noise weapons, Thousand Sons get sorcerors, and deathguard get extra T, FNP.

Undivided can be themed (if desired) but have no awesome benefits like themed legions.

Also, I know that multiple legions follow different banners, but I like the death guard so yeah.

In respons to others, forge world sells a rip-off conversion kit for chaos termies and marines to make them death guard (or other nurgle things). These look very cool and would give my termies an awesome edge (in appearance of course). With the normal marines, you don't need to worry about having no special weapons as it uses the arms and legs of the plastic chaos marines kit. is it worth it?

That's a hard question,I like the look of the FW conversion kits alot,I even thought about picking a few up when I did my Death Guard, but I eventuly decided not to due to FW price & becuase I wanted my Death Guard to be my own creation,so I opted to model my own.
Still if you come across some of the kits on ebay or somthing I'd buy 'em

Sigh.
This is true NOW. In the old days, the undivided guys had their own ways of matching up.

(For instance, Iron Warriors gave up two fast attack slots for an extra Heavy Support, and could field Basilisks.)

Undivided gets "I don't pay extra for abilities that can be ignored".

Plaguemarine T5 and FNP fails against heavy weapons.

1ksons 4+ save doesn't matter if you shoot them with normal stuff, and anyone can get cover.

Berserkers HAVE to get into cc

Noisemarines get I, then try to stay at range.

Undivided is the best bang for your buck. Cheaper, yet almost as good on the offense as any of the cult troops - but being cheaper means you get more of them, so the damage curve is still high.

The Cheese Legion is of course the best.

All troopers in the Cheese Legion are devotees of father Nurgle, but to become an officer you must undergo an extreme religious conversion to Slaanesh. All your festering wounds heal and your cloud of flies is replaced by an uncanny ability to persuade people to have a group hug in open ground. As punishment for those who lose faith in Nurgle without converting to Slaanesh, a spell is cast causing them to merge into a suit of terminator armour whose guns are made by the Chaoswiss Army Knife (TM) company.

Their chapter badge is a large lump of Cheddar and this make them the best!!

I remember this Legion. But, the rules have changed. In late third edition, wasn't this the Legion that had a predominance of artillery and their artillery specialists would be rewarded with a of terminator armour whose guns are made by the Chaoswiss Army Knife (TM) company?

needless to say visually, in my opinion, one-god armies are best....nurgle is very resilient and you should be able to hold on your objectives no matter what......with slaanesh on the other hand you get ridiculous amounts of anti-personnel fire-power...... in any way i would buy the normal ones and convert them....

In my homepage you can see my nurgle models....maybe they will inspire you

Either way...goodluck may vhaos be with you
