I've been looking for a good box to store my paint in. It has to be tall enough to hold the paints (the vallejo bottles don't fit in some paint boxes, due to the height of the bottles compared to GW bottles), and I've run across a little connundrum.

I've always stored my bottles upright, though I've heard that if the paint is to be stored for longer periods of time to flip them upside down to help prevent the inflow of air. Is it good or bad for them to lay sideways?

I've always kept my paint in a tool box style box, and they've always been upright, but a new case I've found (and I'd love to use) would end up with them on their sides during travel (and perhaps for a while after travel, while it sits on the floor waiting for me to continue painting).

Any hints, tips, or suggestions would be appreciated.

For vallejo bottles I'd use this. It's made for the dropper bottles.

$20 at thewarstore.com

Holds 54 bottles.

Well, I bought a case that's very similar (minus the foam, which I have extra of, and plan to cut down using the sharpened copper tubing method showed in one of the tutorials), my concern is whether storing the paint on it's side would cause more/faster drying, or it's irrelevant and I'm just being paranoid

Edit: I got the Click 'n Go Tote III here: http://art.artbin.com/softside_storage.asp#medium

My GW paints go in an old motherboard box. My Reaper paints go in an insulated lunch bag due to the fact that it's leak proof, has a carry strap and a handy mesh pocket for my brush case. I find it also aids in keeping my paints flowing properly since I can mix them just by shaking the living bejesus out of the bag. One day though, I'll probably not have a cap on tight enough and that won't seem like as good an idea anymore. Even then though, at least the bag is leak proof!

Air exposure to paint is a matter of surface exposure. If the paint bottle is on it's side, it will have more surface exposed to the air and run the risk of clumping or drying faster. Store them either standing up or upside down (and tightly sealed!) to prevent this.

Remember that it's not paranoia if they're really out to get you... those paint companies don't make money if you don't buy their product!

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell
