Me personally, I just pre-ordered a 32 gigger

always wanted one but wanted to wait till they made one big enough for all my MP3s (over 20 gigs). And it'll be released on my birthday.. woohoo!

I have consumer cellular and the cheapest phone in existence. I don't even know how to text. To tell the truth, I forget to charge it up so most of the time it's just lying around somewhere, dead. Perhaps when that million-dollar idea comes my way.

I didn't think iPhones were that great until one of my friends got one and i played around with it. The touch screen interface is light years ahead of similar phones, the apps are pretty great. Mobile wifi (note wifi, not broadband, with full browser) is amazing and about as cheap as a person can get. The only thing that I can't justify is paying the monthly $75+ for service, but that's more AT&T's fault vs. Apples.

Just about all the new phones these days have internet, video, etc. My motorola from 3 years ago could do it, and that was an older model phone when I got it too. You just have to pay by the minute to use it. But with an iPhone you have to get the internet plan for an extra $30 a month on top of whatever you normally pay.

I love Apple stuff cuz I'm nerdy like that, but I probably wouldn't have wanted an iphone if I didn't get to mess with the one my sister has. i think it's less of a phone and more of a tiny computer, there's so much you can do with it. There's a lot of fun games you can get too.

Now all I need is someone to make iArmyBuilder for it and my life will be complete...

As far as $99 for a phone? Plus the monthly bill? I don't think so. I will take the cheapest I can get. I may look into getting one for my wife, she loves fancy things she can play with.

I'm going to purchase the last model (for 99) + 75 / month contract (comes out to be ~80 with tax).
With this I can:
   Talk to my partner for free (that's1/2 my phone time already)
   Full PDA functionality
   Setup my workout routine with an automated timers so I don't need to keep spotting a stop watch
   Use my email from the park (which is awesome)
   Have bus routes and maps in hand when traveling to over cities for work (about 1.5 months out of my year)
   Have my sudoku & crossword with me without having to use paper or carry a pencil (anything that lowers the amount of stuff I carry is good)
   Have my 40k codexes and rule book for quick access and ease of transport (pdf reader)
   Tether to my laptop, when AT&T picks up that end of the service
   Oh, and m@th@f3thing H-T-H gaming with my partner anytime/anywhere
I use to be in Frazzled's camp until I realized what a useful device the iphone can be
My current phone is way cheaper (about 30 dollars a month) and has no contract.
but I have to replace the phone once a year, because it's cheaply made (also about 30 dollars) and has crappy reception and a weak battery

I have an old shuffle that works fine, it was a gift, I didn't buy it.

Heck, my car stereo plays CDs of MP3's so no huge need.

That said, I would like at some point to get an I-pod touch, to use in conjunction with my house's wireless access to listen to web cast radio while doing yard work. Seeing as I would likely need to get a signal boaster as well, I will not be doing that anytime soon.
