I played my first game against a Wood Elf player with my WoC. It didn't go so well. After he killed my sorcerer lord first turn with his bow of w/e and teleporting to woods near my gg (last time I let anyone set terrain up). But this happend because of my own fault so i take blame. What i want to know is: can waywatchers deploy behind a unit within 8 inches in my deployment? I'm new to fantasy so i just trusted his word...but honestly I think there has to be an exception but who knows?

Scenario.
I had my chaos knighs on the 12" line. He then says he will deploy his waywatchers. He comes to my side of the table and places them right behind them. Now, I understand that i cant charge units from my front arc but those this mean my unit is blind behindthat 90 degree arc?

Unless there are exceptions (Chameleon Skinks come to mind) Scouts must be deployed:

A) In your own deployment zone, as normal;

B) At least 10" away from an enemy unit and out of sight. For purposes of deploying scouts, ALL units are treated as having a 360-degree Line of Sight.

In other words, no sneaking up on Chaos Knights. Tell your friend he needs to study up on his scouting rules.

Yep, I thought so. It just seemed to good to be true and broken. I'll mention it to him if he tries to do that again.

I don't have the WE book handy, but I thought Waywatchers had some kind of "super-scout" rule. Just put eyes on the book entry to see if there's anything to note there.

Waywatchers can be anywhere as long as they are out of sight. A war machine, character or skirmishers on a hill usually stops their shenanigans.

1. Waywatchers and Chameleon Skinks are exceptions to the requirement for Scouts to be over 10” from the enemy, as long as they are out of sight.

2. The general Scouting rules (IIRC) do NOT say that units have 360 degree LOS for the purpose of spotting Scouts, but the 7th ed Scout rules DO require that the Scouts be hidden behind cover.

Mannahnin - sorry, the 7th ed chameleons are just plain normal scouts with an extra -1 to hit now. I lament that change, although it is why they are 3 points cheaper now....

Scouts have to be IN or BEHIND cover, not necessarily hidden by it. You do have to be out of LOS entirely, however with a non skimirshing force like WoC this is fairly easy - the hard part is and always has been finding cover in a useful place.
