Volkmar - 360 (sorry - the terror causing, frenzy, Power Level 5, 5+ regen, WS 5 I just can't pass on)
Luther and 7 Knights Innercircle - 420pts (standard of Arcane Warding plus cause Fear from Luther)
Warrior Priest (mtd) with 23 Swordsman (C, S, M) with 9 Swordsman detach - 357pts
Battle Standard Bearer w/Griffon Standard with 29 Swordsman (C, S, M) with 9 Swordsman detach - 391pts
Great Cannons (x2) - 200pts
Hellstorm Rockets - 115pts (with points saved, upgrade here vs. Mortar)
Huntsmen (C) x12 - 125pts (These are just to hang back and help protect the 3 Artillery pieces)
Flagellents (PoD) x25 - 260pts
Still right at 2240pts, upgrade/unified Knights with Luther and have spell resistance in each Parent/Knight unit.
Gives me 6 dispell dice + prayers.

Volmar is expensive compared to a regular Arch Lector, as is Huss. I'm not sure what "Chosen of Sigmar" does for Huss, so he might be worth it, but still, you're paying out the butt for it. He's currently 72 more points than a regular mounted warrior priest with heavy armor and a great weapon.
If you're going to be running knights, it's much better to have 6 of them than two have a champion. I'd drop the champ, find 7 more points, and add another knight to each of those units. You might want to ditch the standard off of them as well. 6 regular knights, unsupported, are going to bounce off of a infantry block. When you flee, you drop your standard and then the enemy gets 100 VP's for it..... I've found it's best to only take standards in big blocks of infantry.
Now... lets talk about greatswords.... Greatswords are probably one of the most horrible units in the game.... right behind halberds. Want to know why? They are T3 with a 4+ armor save that always go last unless they charge. Not only that, but they're expensive too! So.... with such a big bulls eye painted on them, they're going to get whittled down before they even make it into combat. Unless your enemy is a twit and his fear of the steam tank overwhelms him. I'd still change these guys out for some normal swordsmen. They'd save you some points, don't have a giant target on their backs, and don't always strike last.
Also, your handgunners are more or less useless, but I won't quibble over 80 points.

With Unbreakable (provided I get the prayer off) and having the Priest join giving them hatred, I figured the Greatswords would payoff. I debated about running two units of Knights, or having one bigger unit with Priest to escort the Altar.

Running away won't be the problem with the greatswords.... it will be them dying. They're only T3.... and 10 points a model for T3 is just way too expensive.

It is always nice to see one's opinions supported. Angron has made almost the exact points I made in the other thread. Although while I'd go 6 or 7 with the knights, I'd also keep the champion.
Each of your State Troop regiments needs a champion, as well as a standard & musician. Champions give you an extra attack, they can't be killed unless your opponent allocates attacks on them, and they can accept challenges, keeping your hero alive for another turn of prayers.
Warhammer is won or lost in the movement phase. Maneuver is important. Seriously, consider ditching the one big, expensive unit of GS for a couple of cheaper units. More units means more opportunities to maneuver.

it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

Hmm. Ok. Can I ask a stupid question?
Okay, thanks I've only ever seen two Empire games, and have never read the codex, but what I saw was blocks of riflemen. Is that what these are, only under interesting names? Or, is this some sort of cool, non-blocks of shooty guys Empire list?

Handgunners, so I'm assuming he ran a magic/shooty list. Mine's geared more towards HtH/Combat Res, flanking, and anti-magic. Swordsmen are just that, they just happen to have the best save of the state troops.
