me and my cous were having a discussion/argument/near brawl on this one. when the str is 2tiems the toughness its instant death on a wound.

now the question is. do models get a save of any kind if it is an instant death situation

i thought no but alot of people are telling me that you get ur saves. that seems more fair to me cause it not seems alittle odd that something with 3/4 wounds (eg. tau battlesuit commander w/ shield gen) gets wiped out on a simple krak missile.
please help me!

Instant Death has no effect on saves. It applies to unsaved wounds.

You get your Saves.

P.M. me for rational Eldar Advice, both on list construction or Tactics.

Also feel free to query me about rules from the Eldar and Space Marine codices, as well as the General Rule book.

As above. It's unsaved wounds from the right sort of weapon that cause ID.

Ofcourse an instant death weapon can still on some conditions ignore armour saves.

I.E. being ap2 or 1 and double their toughness.

Basically if your opponent is applicable to get a save they get a save, Instant death has nothing to do with determining saves.

Krak missile (AP3) would insta kill a Tau commander unless he had an invulnerable save (shield gen. or shield drone) or a 2+ save. ALternatively you could assign the wound to a drone if he had one.

Forever alone

And note that while models can be immune to instant death, they are not immune to Direswords or Nemesis Force Weapons, which use their own rule called 'slain outright', which is the same as 'removed from play'.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Exactly, for all intents and purposes treat the model in this case as failing a death or glory attack against a tank. Theres no way to escape >:3

Yup, this situation comes up quite a bit when firing Krak Missiles at Terminators or when someone uses a Deff Rolla.

As said, Instant Death by itself does not negate any saves.

If Instant Death ignored saves, I think the Barbed Strangler would be the best weapon in the game.

It's the name of the mechanic that is misleading, IMO. Something called Instant Death? Makes sense that you'd be dead if it hits you. In the worst cases I've seen people think you don't even have to roll S vs T first, any hit is a kill.

Doesn't ID Ignore FNP though?

"Each must find their own way. If those in our heartland had witnessed the savageries of the void as have we they would know this. The hand of each of the great starfarers is turned against the other; none will join their strength together just to to see their ancient enemies prosper. Neither should we."

Yes, it does. But you still have to roll to wound and take Saves.

The eye of terror.

So, for example, against a Str 10 AP4 Manticore wound, a Plague marine would get his armor save (as the AP4 doesn't beat it) but would not get his FNP (as the str 10 is ID).

Why did the berzerker cross the road?
