I am wanting to make up some ard' boys, and was looking at the new plastic WFB black orcs. They look like they would be perfect ard' boys. Is it possible to do clean arm swaps from the 40k boys, especially concerned about the sluggas.

Well... they're perfect actually and that was my plan too. However... A Choppa is just an axe, so you can keep the Great Weapon arms in tact and mount some form of a Slugga on to their belts...

From looking at the pictures, it appears you don't have to model them with great weapons. It appears that the sprues come with handweapons as options. Am I wrong in assuming that?

I've had a squad of WFB black orks as 'ard boyz for a while, and they're great. Only trouble (which is really no trouble at all) is switching out all those mideval weapons for some nice space ork weapons.

I have heard, though I can't confirm, that the unit only comes with enough handweapons to arm some of them, not all. Therefore, you'll have say 5 black orcs with great weapons, and the rest with handweapons. It's to represent their "Armed to da teef" rule, if I remember correctly.

The trouble with this is that the blorcs come with the shoulders cast on, some careful cutting will be required to prevent them having long, gangly or tiny, stubby arms and I'm pretty sure that most (if not all) the Blorcs can be armed with Hand Weapons
Hope I was helpful, I have to be (see sig)

I assume you mean by adding slugga rounds, and stick bombs? I would also add the iron gobs, and maybe the shoulder spikes as well.

I recal seeing some 'ard boyz done with the metal black orcs many years ago and they looked very cool,so it would seem converting the plastic black orcs into 'ard boyz would be just as cool and much easier.

This is correct. They're not good for generic conversions, and the angles that the arms attach to the molded shoulders is a bit awkward too. I'd steer clear.

You sure they were black orcs, and not plain fantasy boyz? The normal fantasy orcs and the 40k orks work together really well. The black orks - well, you get some neat heads and bitz, but overall, I'd recommend against this. They're also a bit big for normal boyz - if anything, they work best as nobs, or flashgitz (assuming you can get them custom weapons)

I find the moulded shoulders really improves the aesthetics of the armour - at least compared to my armour-plated regular boyz. Good luck, though they might be better as Nobs.

I'm sure I've seen someone do this on Dakka. Even though there may be some differences on where the moulding ends on the two sets of models, provided you're willing to put a little work in, I'd go for it, if it's the look you're going for.
