See subject line.

My mech guard force is probably going to be on the move most of the time and I can't see any reason to keep HHB as they are less good against horde and no better against anything else, anyone think otherwise?

I like the heavy bolter even for moving tanks, because you never know when you'll decide to castle or when you won't have any targets close by.

Dealing out 9 dice of shooting from 36" away is very, very nice.

My descision comes down to the unit inside the transport. If it's a melta toting unit or a flamer support squad then HHF. If it's a chimera for plasma guns or autocannons, HHB. That's pretty much how I determine it

I accidentaly put the bolter bits on all my Chims and then thew away My sprues so I got stuck with the HHB but suprisingly Its turned out that Im glad I did. If there were more Ork players in my local area though I would probably wish differently.

They dont get used much but toward the end of the game when everything near the Chimera Phalanx is dead having the abilty to reach out with 9 shots per Chim to clear out last minute objective holders is rather good.

Also against Demons and other assualt armies that actually come to me they are spectacular for mowing down the enemy as they come in. I put HF on my Demolishers and run them with the phalanx and have one PCS with HF, FL,FL,FL running with them as well which seems to give me all the flames I need. Going this way has given me great flexibility.

Alright, so mixed bag depending on whats inside, what about the stubbers, they can shoot. Worth the points?

If you have the points to spare, yes. Just consider the heavy stubber to be a light multilaser -- it's got the same range and AP as the multilaser, so it makes for a decent complimentary weapons that can fired on the move.

I have just finished converting all my HHB to HHF, and it's awesome

HHF are awesome, especially for mech guard who can field a LOT of them.

Most of the time I am moving my chimeras, so they would not be firing the HHB anyways (they fire the multi), however, when you get close, multiple HHFs can literally turn the tide of battle.

I agree with BoxANT. HHF are the bomb. I have one HHB in my list mainly because that Chimera stays put most of the game. Everything else is moving. The HHF is also a big F U to units that assault the tank and fail to hurt it. Next turn, you back up, etc. and flame the crap out of them...all nice and bunched up for you.

Pretty much all of my thanks have hull heavy flamers at this point. horde armies are toug to cut through in 2 turns, but when they get close they turn over and die when they run into 6-9 heavy flamer templates.

'
ive been considering running HF on my demolishers. My demolishers have plasma cannons so in close the flamers would seem to be a good idea

Hull Heavy Flamer. You need the flamers against hordes versus a Heavy Bolter you will rarely use because you need to move to get to objectives or to not get auto hit on rear armor by assault.

I run a 1/3 HF/HB ratio on my chimeras, and place melta/flamer heavy squads in them. I like the flexibility to choose between str 6 and AP 4 too much to give up more than that. After all, you never know when you'll catch a light or medium infantry squad in the open, and the better AP will maul them. As for sponson hvy flamers, i've been using them on a pair of squadroned exterminators which have been working fairly well.

As Captain Karuthers has pointed out, the synergy between fully mechanized armies and heavy flamers is insane. A unit charges a vehicle, kills it (or not) and then doesn't get a consolidate move. Since they are subject to the "no holding back" rule for moving assaulters, you've just got a stack of base to base infantry begging to get torched. I pack 13 heavy flamers in my list, and foot horde is done-zo if they can't crack my armor from range.

Heavy bolters may pepper units earlier in the game, but spiked damage on bunched up assaulters can be game breaking.

As an additional benefit, it encourages me to constantly move with my chimeras, this makes my meltaguns better, and it makes my chimeras harder to hit in CC.

The only reason i consider taking HHB is if you're against tau or eldar and want to ignore their 4+ save with the heavy bolter. Heavy Bolters will still do stuff, but the HFs are just downright scary for anybody. Assaulting tanks is one of the easiest ways to kill IG tanks, so we gotta have a way to punish them for doing it.

I will cutoff all my HHB on my chimeras, BUT put in magnets, so I can choose....I will put HHB on chimeras on CCS which sit back and give orders as well as the PBS, since thier psychic powers are long ranged, but everything else use the HHF. I have used HHF 2x on my mech assault element, and man I agree with everyone they ROCK ROCK ROCK...and I played both nids and space marines that day, both sides of the coin, and even against marines they did well...
