So I was reading thru my old daemonhunter codex and noticed the ironwill rule.

It states:
The inquisitor lord can choose to pass or fail any morale check ... Even if this failure is normally automatic, the Lord may still choose whether to pass or fail this test.

Now if choosing to fail was an automatic failure there would be no need for the bolded part of that sentence. Note if he chooses not to pass he would be automatically failing and the last part of that sentence is redundant.
So when you choose something it is not automatic.

Let me summarize the debate.

1. That's the DH codex, not the SM one.
2. RAW says it doesn't matter.
3. I play for fun, I don't care about RAW.

Two different rules, two different books, two different editions (third vs fifth).

Personally, I always took God of War to just let Marneus choose if he rolled a 2 or a 12 on his Leadership test. That it wasn't Fearless.

Ironwill is the same thing - the IQ is basically rolling loaded dice, he has two sets - one rolls a 2 and the other a 12.

In the dark future, there are skulls for everyone. But only the bad guys get spikes. And rivets for all, apparently welding was lost in the Dark Age of Technology. -from C.Borer

Can we stop this here? GoW has been debated to death including references to DH codex.

Till GW gives us an Errata or FAQ you can play it ether way and dice off if you don't agree.

Dude, wake up and smell the catnip. That has been brought up COUNTLESS times. The wording is not identical, so does not have any bearing on God of War,

One could just as well bring up evidence from the foreign language translations of the codices to prove that the intent of God of War is to "freely choose to automatically pass or fail morale checks," but I suspect that the reception would be just as poor. Then we could have arguments about incorrect translations on top of RAI vs. RAW.

Agreeing with Gwar and every other person here, stop debating it and leave it to rest.

You proved nothing.

Your argument has already been beaten to death by rusty spoons.

This reveals no new insight.

You have changed no one's mind.

Seriously, if people can't figure out that God of War makes Marneus Calgar immune to No Retreat!, then how do you expect them to understand arguments explaining that fact? All they're going to do is stick their fingers in their ears and blow bubbles; expecting them to discuss the issue like serious adults is expecting too much of them.
