In the Tau codex the pathfinders are armed with a pulse carbine with a marklight designator. My question is since they all have a marklight on their carbines when you take 5 of them do you get 5 marklights or one for the squad?

On another note what is a good anti-horde loadout for a tau battlesuit?

Errrm... How exactly do the Pathfinders weapons work? I cannot find in the codex where it explains it. Are they just carbines that you can choose to fire as markerlights? If they are, you can only choose to fire 1 or the other, and the pathfinder unit will not benefit from them because they are not networked markerlights.

As for Anti Hoard, I wouldn't know, I don't play crap armies

So even the great Gwar doesn't know wow...I'm hoping for them to count as multiple marklight that would be sick....any idea on a anti-horde battlesuit that still has a bit of punch.

I guess for anti-horde suits you could go with burst cannon/flamer or TL flamer.

I use pathfinder markerlights to light up targets for seeker missiles.

I don't know how because I can't find it in the codex. I can hardly be expected to know without reading the codex. I have all the codexes, I just don't read the Crap Codexes (Read: Tau and Tau Empire) that much.

Can someone give me a freaking page number plox!

They have a carbine and they have a markerlight. So you choose to fire one or the other with each model.

Anti-horde battelsuits. . .you mean to only face light infantry models?

A flamer (or twin-linked flamers) along with a burst cannon isn't a bad combo and cheap too.

But as always, the risk is that Battlesuits tend to be one of the only places in the army you can get low AP weaponry so once you start kitting your suits out to fight infantry you're doubling up on what other units in the army can already do and you have very limited places to get that kind of firepower elsewhere in the army.

Ah, wonderful thanks And here I was thinking the Tau Codex was the pinnacle of GW writing ability

No the pinnacle of the GW writing ability is the CSM codex . Haha!

The anit-horde style that I want is tons of shot and to utilise the Jet Pack to stay out of CC for as long as possible. The rest of the army will be rail rifles and Broadsides. And a few fire warrior squad using pathfinders' devilfish to be mobile!

whatever anti horde your battlesuits can muster, it's going to compare unfavorably to simply having more firewarriors. The only real advantage might be Flamers and an Airbursting Fragmentation Projector, which will allow 1 model in your army to really hose anything with a 5+ save or worse hiding behind a cover save.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

You guys are all wrong, the anti-horde unit in the tau is a hammerhead with rail guns and burst cannons.

Thats a Str6 AP4 large blast and 6 str 5 AP 5 shots from BC.

I would go with TL missile pod and flamer.

Whats the advantage of TL flamers? You still only get one shot, yes?

they get to re-roll to wound which is ace when you have to wipe out the squad or your suits are gonna get stopped in CC next turn.

The Tau codex is pretty damn good in regards to rules (or at least it was before 5th ed)... mostly because there are about 2 special rules in the entire codex. I thought pathfinders were pretty clear.

And again... your battlesuits are really for low AP weapons. Missile pods and plasma. If you really want to go anti horde i would still recommend using missile pods in conjunction with either Burst Cannon or Flamer.

Twin Linked template weapons re-roll to wound rolls. Good for burninating Iggies out of cover.

If you need some anti-horde weapons, don't leave home without an Airbrust Frag Projector.

One of the problems with trying to use Suits for anti-horde, is they're likely to get assaulted soon. It's hard to dance around at the edge of their assault range, but keep people in range for flamers.

I agree with Red, a Hammerhead is a great anti-horde weapon. Use Markerlights to reduce cover saves if needed. Firewarriors are also very good with two S5 AP5 shots within 12 inches (assuming you have rifles and not carbines), potentially hitting on a 2+ (markerlights). Plus, they're cheap enough, that if they get assaulted and wiped out, it's not a disaster.
