hey all,

I really want to start a new army with a whole lot of detail, really taking my time to make this an amazing looking army. I already have a good sized Daemonhunters force, and I think I have played Space Marines to death. So I have come to you Dakkaites! This is what I am looking for, wicked looking models, something that plays well on the tabletop.

I am all for fluffy special forces too, so get those thinking caps on and let me know what you think!!!

Uh, play Dawn of War and get a feel for what army "speaks" to you.

If you want detail and a unique challenge (both in collecting and playing) Dark Eldar it is!

Not having a laugh as I plan to have a Dark Eldar force for my second army.

A little more detail would help, as we could know what kind of things you are looking for. But, here is my list of my personal favorite races:

1: Dark mechanicum: Loads of character, lots of fun to collect and convert, plenty of codexes to choose from to best represent the army (CSM, Daemons, necs, etc.), so plenty of tailoring to fit your play style, just overall a really cool army to collect.
2: Chaos Daemons: A bucketload of character, really nice models, really fun to play against and with, again, just a very nice army.
3: CSM: Plenty of room for personalization, nice minis, one of the strongest codexes available.
4: Orks: WWAAAAAAAAAGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Nuff said. Characterful, best 'dex around, nice models, and fun to play with and against if you don't break the list.
5: Nids: Fun to play with, nice minis, cool list, plenty of personalization possible.

Hope I helped.

I know. I'm evil.
I saw weird stuff in that place last night. Weird, strange, sick, twisted, eerie, godless, evil stuff. And I want in.

Ok, if you want to use some very detailed minis, then I think you need to look first to the minis, then try to see what fits your playstyle.

You already play one of the all metal forces (Deamonhunters) and a second strong all-metal force is Witch Hunters. Those are some of the most detailed minis that Citidel makes, but since you already play one of those, you probably aren't all that interested.

Another strong option you have is found in the Imperial Guard. The Vostroyan Firstborn have tons of detail, and would make some wonderful infantry for an Imperial Guard force:

Also, you can probably get some of the other older IG minis, like the Zulu-wars style Preatorian guard.

Other options exist in the imperial guard too. For example, you could use Necromunda miniatures for guardsmen (this allows everything from the Van Saar's high tech look to the House Cowdor/Redemptionists look - making a beautiful religious zealot force.

The last option with the guard- the one that the most people don't even let themselves think about- is to go ahead and customize every last guardsman. This works really well if you can get yourself some bitz ordered parts (like Necromunda heads) and do a little green stuff work on all of your mini (it is far easier than it looks). Also, I've seen some wonderful things happen with a mixture of Cadians and Bretonian men at arms.

As far as playing goes, the IG is a pretty strong force. They can even bring in allies from the Kroot or the Inquisition.
