Subject: 1700 Pts. Grey Knights

I run a pure Grey knight force as my main 40K army. I've actually done pretty good on the tournament scene with it, winning Best Overall and Best general on two occasions.
Now, I always strive for perfection and continually want to find ways to improve my list to be as competitive as I can be with my GK even if I know that every game is an uphill battle.
Anyway, the first list is the one I've been running for the past year or so and the second is the one I'm thinking of trying over the next few months. I would like your opinions on these please.
List one:
Grand master with Master-crafted Nemesis weapon, Psychic hood and Psycannon
5 Termies retinue with a Psycannon
3*8 Grey knights (including Justicar) with 2 Psycannons and Frag grenades, Melta bombs and Targeter for the Justicar
Grey Knight Land raider with extra armr and smoke launchers
Grey Knight Dreadnought with Twin-linked lascannon, extra armor and smoke launchers.
Note: The purpose behind this list is to be defensive and to be able to hold objectives and still to be able to pack a punch at long range. The termies will draw the fire and take the pounding while the PAGK are able to move into position and use their storm bolters/psycannons to maximum efficiency.
List 2:
Brother-Captain Stern
4 Termies retinue with Incinerator
3*8 Grey knights (including Justicar) with 2 Psycannons and Frag grenades, Melta bombs and Targeter for the Justicar
Grey Knight Land raider with extra armor and smoke launchers
2*Grey Knight Dreadnought with Twin-linked lascannon, extra armor and smoke launchers.
Note: With this list I plan on using my termies in a more aggressive stance. They will be a sacrificial unit (albeit an expensive one...)to force my opponent to expand ressources to take them down. They will run in the land Raider and be able to choose their assault where the enemy is most vulnerable, hoping to wreak havoc in the enemy lines. The extra Dread is there to compensate for the moving Land Raider.
So What do you think?

Hm I don't have any advice, just more questions heh.
My good friend plays grey knights and hes new to 40k but hes a long time vet in fantacy. We are trying to find a way for him to have anti tank. What do you prefer? I looked though the codex and it seems extremly limited.

well there are about 6 options
1) grey knights with meltabombs/ assault
2) Inquisitorial stormtroopers with meltaguns
3) Inquisitors with henchmen that have meltaguns
4) Land Raiders
5) Dreadnoughts
6) Orbital Strike
Please note that 1 and 6 are not consistant enough to be effective
Please note that 2 and 3 without a transport is not effective
4 and 5 are your best options
But at least there are probably more options than you thought!!!

My GK foe is looking to build up his army, and we have looked at anti-tank options.
Dreadnoughts with TL-Lascannons seem to be a good option, and Land Raiders, although expensive, are durable.
We've not played using them yet, but as I have a 3-battlewagon list, and there is a Khorne-in-rhinos player with some predators, we'll soon see how they do

Armor is the toughest thing for a pure GK player...3 or 4 lascannons however with get you by agaisnt most lists...also, don't underestimate the psycannons...wit their good amount of shots, I've tken down plenty of transports. Use them agaions tlight vehicules and lascans against the better armors.

Well this maybe cheesy but heres a thought of mine.
That codex is so old and was written with the old guard codex in mind, so I figured inquis and mystics shouldnt be allowed because in no way was that intended to happen. Though fluff you have to let it because people want to use guard and vice versa to represent those IQ armies.
Anyway since the new guard codex does work with DH, I assume it works in reverse. And with the new layout of IG and most options being grouped together..... I E you can take infantry platoons, I E platoon command, special weapon squads, heavy weapon squads and all that goodness?
Am I wrong?

You are correct. I've actually designed a list using only Grey Knights with a Valkyrie, 2 Vendettas and a Land raider. I've never actually tested it but it sure compensates for the lack of anti-armor and mobility that we have. As long as you purchase your compulsory HQ and 2 troops choices from the DH book, you can fill the rest of your force using the IG codex.

How awful are the daemon hordes (the optional troop choice for DH foes)? I mean, how awful are they compared to the alternative use of that troops slot for an Ork player (taking more Boyz).

If you want Valks then you have to use the IG codex, you can only take platoons, Sentinels, a Leman Russ as allies in the DH codex. If you use the IG codex you can have 1 hq, 1 elite, 2 troops and 1 fast attack. so you can't technically have only GK and Valks.
