Wasn't sure where to put this (it probably belongs in painting and modelling really). Anyway, there is actually a pretty good article on painting horses on the GW website today. See below for link.
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?aId=14700022
Ideal for aspiring Empire Generals like myself who have shied away from cavalry in the past due to their inability to paint the equine half of the model in a realistic manner.
More content like this please GW!

I hate painting horses as well, but that is a very helpful article.

I've found that a basecoat of brown followed by a generous coating of brown ink works very well.
Hence, I have lots of brown horses.

I use bestial brown followed by a wash of Devlan Mud, works fairly decent.

Wow, this is actually a great article. I'm not an Empire player but still found it informative and enjoyable. It's stuff like this that needs to find it's way back to the GW site and White Dwarf.
Good find, thanks for sharing!

The article is more or less a rehash from an old Mordheim article on how to properly paint horses.

Itself a rehash of an older "how to paint horses" article from maybe 1989.
Still, it was like the NMM tute in a recent WD.

Got that right Chromedog. I went to a local used bookstore that carries gaming books and patiently went through their stack of over 30 relatively recent (as late as 2004) WD's and went home with 3 - those only to use the modelling tutorials for inspiration.
