The Space Marines can use other races such as some Which Hunter units and Imperial Guard units. So would it be possible for CSM to use Chaos Daemon unit? Specifically i am looking at the greater daemon from CSM and using a greater daemon from Chaos Daemons instead. Not sure if this is possible but i have not been able to locate any rules on the topic.

Only in Apocalypse. Otherwise your Codex needs a rule that refers to another army list/codex that lets you.

40k has some old codices ( witchhunters/demonhunters) providing "allies". "allies" are not part of the BRB in 5th.
So if GW changes the inquisition codices, those "allies" may be dropped.
