What is the best size rare-earth magnet to use for magnetizing a dread? They come in so many sizes I thought I would get the community opinion.

3/16" X 1/16" will fit right in the holes without having to drill out the socket of the plastic dreads. You might have to file a little of the arm stud off to make clearance, unless you get 1/32" thick magnets. Some people use 1/8" diameter magnets, but you have to make sure they're lined up right. You'll have to use the larger magnets for pewter arms. You will probably have to put in a pin to stabilize and pose the various arms so they won't fall down.

I used a bit larger magnets. I think they are bout 1/4" x 1/8" I pulled them out of some of those magnetic thumb tacks. I had to drill out the arm holes a little and fill with GS then I squished the magnets in and pressed against the dread to get the right spacing from the body.
