What the hell guys? No Ghostbusters review? Seriously?
Well, okay then. Here it is:
The game is pretty awesome. The voice acting is pretty top notch, with the only annoyance being that Walter Peck doesn't sound the same as he did in the first movie and every so often you'll end up hearing the same idling lines from the Ghostbusters themselves twice in a row, if you afk long enough. The story, also is pretty cool. In line with Ghostbusters moreso than GB2 or the fan films that have been made.
However, to go further:
The slime tether? *awesome* Not just is it a wacky fun shenanigan weapon, ala the gravity gun, but there are some pretty creative things you can do with it. Such as hitting the more powerful spooks with the stasis beam until they're "frozen", then slime tethering them to the trap. With the Slam Dunk Trapping ability, this makes some of the more powerful Cultists you fight later on a bit of a joke, but still makes it creative enough to not really ruin the challenge. The slime blower itself? Again, *awesome*. You'll find Black Slime all over the place, usually at points before you move into a new area...and if you don't neutralize it asap with the slime blower, you WILL be overrun and swarmed from portals opening up inside of it.
The Shock Blaster attachment is so/so. The primary firemode is your standard 'shotgun' styled weapon, while the secondary fire is where it really shines. It's the only thing that really hurts golems and more powerful, fast enemies in that you can freeze them in place long enough to open up a whooping on them with things like the Meson Collider or the Bosun Darts. Although, as I said above...Stasis Beam+Slime Tether or Wrangling=Hilarity. In a certain fight later on in the game, you'll be facing these stone kamikaze angels. Use the stasis beam+tether on them, string them all together and watch the shenanigans ensue.
The Meson Collider is another of the "experimental" weapons the Ghostbusters have your guinea pig self strapped into. The primary fire is an overload pulse, which causes huge damage to most targets. However...that's just the start of it

That overload pulse then allows your secondary fire mode, the rapid firing burst pulses, to automatically home in on what you just tagged, ala Resistance's Bullseye. Useful for quite a few bosses, and the larger golem enemies you'll fight towards the end.
And last but most definitely, the most iconic...
The Proton Pack. Oh yes. The standard Ghostbusters tool. How many of us had the toy version as kids? I know I sure as hell did, with that foam "proton beam" attachment. One of the greatest memories of my childhood.
But what's more, they made it as close as they could to the way it features in the film, right down to the fact that if you cross the streams by accident--game over. But there's more! Egon's gone all-out, and added a "Bosun Dart" firing mode, in which the Proton Pack allows for a concentrated pulse blast, ala a grenade launcher, to be fired. It's great for taking out swarmers. Add in the "capture stream" for the wrangling, and it never really gets replaced. Especially since, while you can go and do things like blast away at golems--it's far, far more fun to use the capture stream to tear the animated heart out of them.
Now, I've only got the
PC version right now so I cannot comment on the 360 or PS3 or Wii, but from what I understand, the story and general gameplay is the same, just with the
PC version not having coop or multiplayer.
But hey, I got it for free off Steam as a gift from someone I game with on TF2. Completely worth it either way, enough so that I'm going to be buying the 360 version for coop Ghostbustin' goodness.
