I'm interested in starting an all-kroot force. I'd like to implement some kind of vehicles, guns and walkers, just to make them more complete. However I am stuck on where their tech actually comes from. Where are the Kroot buildings and vehicles. Why do Kroot go to battle in a loincloth armed with a musket and a bayonet?

We know the Kroot have interplanetary space travel capabilities (even warp travel?) and had this travel before their first alien contact. This would seem to suggest a highly advanced society (even more so than ours) or at least, sections of society that are highly educated. Are there Kroot universities? Kroot factories? If they can make warp-capable ships, why isn't that tech applied on the field of battle in some other form?

What about diet? The 'standard' kroot is deemed to be at its 'evolutionary peak'. What does that mean, and how do the Kroot stay at that peak if they absorb DNA of its prey? Can they elect not to absorb any genetics from their prey and say in their current form? Are there Kroot farms where genetically advanced/diverse delicacies are raised?

And in game terms, there are a number of signature evolutionary adaptions (6th sense, ork hide etc). How far would people go to make sure that I was playing WYSIWYG? Could I be disallowed from a tourney if my Kroorks are too Kroot and not enough Ork on the actual models? For something like this that is an army-wide adaption that you can only take one of, I would hope people would be ok with a simple statement, but TFG is lurking...

Kroot technology is based on ork. The kroot absorbed a significant amount of ork dna, and gained access to the latent mechanical knowledge of the orks. So they can instinctively build technology at about the same level. That is why Kroot Warspheres are similar to ork roks.

I thought the Kroot had colonised a large number of planets BEFORE the Ork attacks began. Unless I'm reading my fluff wrong.

Or perhaps this is classic GW temporal blindness.

If I remember well, the Tau colonized the Kroot's planet. Then, the orks attacked and ¿O' Shova? (Don't remember the Tau commander) obtained the kroot's help for stopping the invasion. The kroots absorbed their ADN (¿How is it writing in english?) and, ¡Voilá! Ork technology for dinner

(Sorry for the errors, i'm spanish )

Tau saved the Kroot during an Orc invasion i belive, the Kroot went "I like you.." learned their language, Tau gave them some weapons and such (Hense why their guns are not total rubbish like Orc weapons) so i suppose you could like..krootifiy some tau vehicles? Say..

A Devilfish in camo-ish colours, along with leafs on it, really dirty and the like? possibly a Kroot pointing out of the commanders hatch?

I thought the Tau just kindof walked in on the Ork/Kroot war on Pech? In any case, it's easy to do the Krootified Tau machines. Moloch did it; his models all look like Kroot rebels that killed or enslaved the Tau.

I would try to make something unique though, maybe out of sentinal kits or something.

Dakka. You need more of it. No exceptions.

The Kroot and Orks were at war before the Tau sumbled in on them.

IIRC, The First Ork invasion of Perch was while the Kroot were technologicaly in the Industrial Revolution. They were attacked by a stray Rok, the lack of supplies and low tech to loot quickly left the Orks with limited technological advantage. After the war, the Kroot had absorbed enough Ork DNA to select the Oddboy genes, allowing them to build advanced technology. However unlike orks, they do not posess the Ork Psychic field to let them smooth over technical difficulties leaving them with a very accelectic technological nature.

The Rifles are more like classic winchesters then muskets. The Tau provide them with 'pulse' ammunition (basicly plasma-explosive bullets), otherwise they'd be Str3AP- weapons.

As for vehicles, The Rain-forest like conditions of Perch really made vehicles impractical for them, but they're fully cabable of using them if provided. They are, however, likely to put todoms and other paraphanalia on it. If it's a merc army, Imperial tanks may actualy make more sense. (also easier for the kroot to maintain)

Mars.Techpriest your completly right there. After that first stray ork ship landed and the Kroot colected thier DNA and racial memorys the Kroot were able to make thier War Speres (Excuse my dyslexic spellings). The tau came across one of these spheres as it was being chased by a new contingent of ocs. long story shot the tau got traped on Perch and eventualy learnd to fight with the Kroot (though they realy hated the eating the dead thing) and all lived happily ever after.
It is also rumered that they are not complty unmechanised on thier planet, it is said that there are huge forges under the mountains of Perch.

Congratulations, your dismissive and conclusory commentary has provided nothing to this discussion or the wider community on whose behalf you arrogantly presume to speak nor does it engage in any meaningful way the remark it lamely targets. But you did manage to gain experience points toward your next level of internet tough guy.

@Travsi: Kroot vehicles are krootox. They can be counted as open-topped vehicles.(I don't know why they keep on doing stupid things.)Knarlock could also be used as a living tank.Kroot use bayonets and muskets cause that is thier technology. If you were to ask a kroot to build a missle launher it woulb be like asking a roman to build a t.v.They use bayonets because they are mainly a close combat force.

Well, they're not that advanced to begin with(ok, sure, they are cabable of space travel), so just use all the crappy stuff they have.

They also unfortunately have an atrophied brain hemisphere responsible for creativity and novel thinking, so they are at the ceiling of their technoligical progress without someone else teaching them, or they eat some creatures that let them change their brain physiology, or just eat some more advanced orks.

I think Kroot dont have enough Tech. to be a stand alone army.

I see...

Maybe if Kroot still retained some of the tech. the Tau gave them and Greater Knarlocs are in the codex

Yeah if they got a vehicle or two, some of the gun options, and a couple more morphs like kroot birds and things that they mention in the fluff, i think that would work.

All over the U.S.

Might want to check out the how would you fix the Tau in 5th ed thread. We are writing fan-dex's and covering alot about the Kroot history right now.

Now to answer to the best of my ability.

The Kroot were at one point civilized and somewhat industrialized. They found a crashed Ork spacehulk and started to copy the tools and tech to some extent. This ended up gaving them space travel over time and they started to colonize thier system.

IIRC the Kroot were on several worlds when the encountered the Orks. Please remember that I'm running off of several codices and white dwarf issues on this and I'm condensing a bit.

The Kroot ended up being attacked by the Orks just because of the Orks nature and the war was on. The kroot not understanding went into a long protracted war with the Orks which is what gave the Orks the upperhand.

The War spread across the system and the kroot were forced to give up their cities and move into the jungles to fight a guerilla type of war. This proved to be more successful. So much so that by the time the Tau came in and assisted(Saved the Kroots bacon) The Kroot had commited to the belief that living in civilized conditions(Cities) had been their downfall.

So as things stand. The Kroot as mentioned by Railguns "have an atrophied portion of their brain" and it is the inventive part. But they have an oversied reasoning and processing portion that does so without emotional clutter(Why my kroots are getting stubborn in my Fan-dex).
This brain structure allows the kroot to learn and mimic in an amazingly quick period of time.

According to fluff, visitors see no sign of industry that would even produce the Kroot Rifle but their are energy signals buried somewhere in the mountains.

The Kroot have only one vehicle and it is out of neccesity. It is their Warspheres that they use to travel planet to planet. It is a kroot version of the Ork spaceships but has no warp capability. (Suspect that the Tau tow them with some sort of "tractor" technology).

IMO,As far as the Kroot are concerned any other Tech is for producing weapons. Any Technology that would enhance their physical abilities is viewd as being almost sinful. The get into Tau transports because the Tau tell them to, but they will not make a battlefield transport. Instead if they feel the need for one, they will adapt a physical form that will get the job done instead.

Genetic Adaptation is the Kroot war Technology and guerilla tactics is their type of war.

If I missed anything or am off on any of it let me know.

Well to create weopeons out of living organisms and use the use of evolution as a way to wage war is WAY BEYOND THE IMPERIUM!!!!!!! The only use of evolution was the emperor trying to keep the human race alive long enough to evolve a great amount of physkers.
