I'm starting a Deathwing army and the codex is on the way. However, I understand that a few items are slightly different in the way they are worded in the Dark Angels / Ultramarines codices.

For example, Storm Shields have different saves depending on the codex referenced. Cyclone missile launchers are also slightly different in the two books.

As I understand, you should play out of your own codex. But as a newer player lurking on various sites on the interwebs, I notice many threads in which players' recommendations mesh the two books. For example, I recently read several people advocating Deathwing Terminators as troops choices (per the DA codex) and in the same sentence expound on the wonderful virtues of their Cyclone ML shooting twice per turn (from SM codex).

So my question is...

When it comes to wargear (stormshields, cyclone missile launchers, etc), should I stick to the DA codex for my deathwing army? Or should I use the most recently released version?

Thanks,
Rob

The current 'official' policy is to use your codex as written.

This is covered in the Dark Angels FAQ. Of course, you and your opponent are always free to agree to use the newer versions from the Marine codex instead.

What Insaniak said. Plan to use strictly your own wargear, but don't hesitate to ask your opponent if you can use 5th edition wargear rules instead. Read the current DA FAQ on GW's website for the full details.

Use your own codex.

You don't have Chaos Space Marines players whining they can't use units from Codex: Chaos Daemons so Deathwing Players should not whine about having a different codex.

Ha great joke! There no way Chaos Space Marines players whine about not having daemons like those in the Chaos Daemons codex.
