So the goal for this summer is to wrap up my 2000-ish point crimson fist army. The models are all here at the time of writing, I've just been busy with school and such until now. Posted today is a Rhino that I finished up last night after literally 6 months sitting around. Things to look forward to are some assault terminators, Pedro Kanto, Captain Drakken [Sicarius], a whole plethora of sterngaurd and wave upon wave of Tactical marines and their drop pods.

And any photography tips would be appreciated. I'm shooting with a mid-end SLR and have not quite mastered it yet, I think the macro function is garbage, so I may start taking pics from farther away and cropping them up.

I like the beat-up scheme. As Space Marines with-out a home it kind of fits. Also like your shade of blue used.

As far as photography, I'm not familiar with your camera but I took this with a 5MP Kodak (about four or five years old now). My macro setting is also useless, but I have toyed with a whole bunch of settings (and mechanical zoom) until I got this quality with natural light (dining room light and two lamps). This is a setting I have on the camera called text taken using a very small tripod (like the table-top kind, I think it was only $10) and a two second delay to reduce any chance for vibration. Also using a fairly dark earth brown card stock sheet from Michaels (about $1) for a background, its much darker than it shows in the photo. As you can see, I get pretty good light and detail. I hope this helps as I'm sure your camera is gotta be better than mine as its a Nikon SLR.

This image is to show my picture quality not to hijack your thread.

Dude, I really like the wear and tear marks on the tank. The steel showing through the paint looks awsome, I may have to try that one day.

Is a good looking tank, you have pulled the weathered look very well. Look forward to seeing more

Just farting around with the camera today, think i'm getting closer. Anyways, for your veiwing pleasure, we have various WIP stuff as well as sicarius aka-ing as Captain Drakken. The chaplain is a labour of love and is not done. The Kantor was, unfortunately one of the first marines I painted, so he's not the greatest, but whatever, I'll get a new one some day.

Just a few cameratips, your lenses have a close range minimum to aquire focus, make sure you stay out of that. Seeing as you can take pics with quality that far outweigh the need for this forum it's probably easier to stand back, zoom with the lens and crop to desired size.

And when you use a background, try to get it under the model aswell, sort of like a J shape that dosn't leave a hard corner. A big paper, (A3 or A2) is sufficient for this. Also try to get a lamp (or reflection) on the lower right side of your models, that's the only place lacking light at the moment.

Other than that, keep up the good work , like the painting

May the mass*acceleration be with you
