Tough. But specific incidents? That you have not already listed?

In Mechanicum, Empra goes up to knight with broken leg and says "Machine, heal thyself" and it does.

How about Eishorn and Fisching?

Eisenhorn: "Who do you work for?"
Fischig: "The Emperor."
Eisenhorn: "Then pretend I'm him and you won't be far wrong."

The short story "Daemonblood." "Warth of Kharn" is fun, too.

List could go on and on.

I love that bit at the start of Ravenor Rogue, where Molotch and Leyla are enjoying a drink in a café, observing...

"In the course of this delightful lunch, Leyla, I could have brought the subsector down three or four times over. Just like that."

1) Tallarn Ally with eldar.

2)Vindicare Assassin and Farseer fall in love (did the farseer see THAT coming?)

3) That famous line when the sniper 'nails the bastard'

My top three would have to be:
1. Russ throwing his spear at the moon. I loved it because it actually shows the Primarchs in a more "human" light.
2. In Warriors of Ultramar, when the 'nids first arrive in system and attack the small planet on the rim of the system. The book describes the community's priest walking up to a spore mine and shooting it at point-blank range.
3. This was a short story in the 'Nids section of the old GW site. It starts with some IG investigatig a small Magos Biologis compound and finding some Genestealers, and it ended with the Hive Fleet eating the planet. Around the end of the fighting, the story describes the Scythes of the Emperor (IIRC) drop podding in the fight back the Tyranids. The story pants this magnificent picture of the Space Marines butchering the 'nids. Then, it switches and starts describing some SM deaths. It says that within twenty minutes of leaving their pods, all the SM were dead.

Somewhere.

I'm not sure if they count, but the Imperial Armour III, IV and V are all a really fun read.

Otherwise, I do enjoy the story in the latest Space Marine codex about the assault on the Necron World Engine, and quite a lot of the Necron fluff is fun.

@rustyknight: Oh! lol! I remeber that story! (3). It was a good one. Too bad it ended with him offing himself, and not spazzing out and wiping out the hive fleet himself.

Buzzard's Knob

A very short story in one of the second edition rulebooks. Guard are pinned down by some rebels or something, when a unit of Blood Angels assault marines drop in and slaughter them. The Guardsmen are horrified by the excess of the slaughter. After the killing is done, the Blood Angels sergeant stomps over to the Guardsmen, stoops over so that he's face-to-face with their sergeant and bellows "PRAISE THE EMPEROR!!!"

@MANCHU: in a white dwarf magazine, had a lot of Guard backrounds (mordia, tallarn, and some kind of Necromunda Spiders). I can't find any more copies though.

In the story, tallarn uncover ritual circle, wake up chaos deamons. Eldar attack both tallarn and deamons (unsure who is on whos side) tallarn wage guerilla war against eldar while chaos grows stronger. Eventually the eldar and tallarn ally and make a final strike and break the chaos army. They promise a alliance between thier peoples thereafter.

That fanfic was a pile of bull. It competely ignored all fluff concerning assassins.

Imperial Assassins are blank slates, completely devoid of any compassion. They've grown up in total isolation and live only to kill people.

That story was even worse than C.S. Goto's stuff. And his books are really bad.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

But anyway. My favourite piece of fluff would be from the new IG codex; the fluff for Gunnery Sergeant Harker. Can you say Chuck Norris reborn?

He chews glass instead of tobacco, and doesn't feel pain or bleed because he believes that pain and bleeding are for wusses.

@Cheese Elemantal: Have you no love? no compassion? I think it was nice, sweet (if unrealistic) story of a badass Romeo with a Badass, psycic Juliet.

And they do explore how assasins are often 'blank slates' but in a galaxy of assasins there is always going to be a special case.

IMO the story was poop. Only good thing was the art it stimulated. Everything else produced a Kharn-like rage within me.

Love Can Bloom wasn't terrible, but the premise kind of made it unworkable.

The Vindicare doesn't even have a reason to like her. He just sees her and decides not to kill her. It might be different if they, you know, actually talked to each other at some point in time prior.

I much prefer the alternate ending, though:

The Emperor doesn't seem to do much for you but you sure are expected to be mutilated, suffer, and die to make him happy. And is he dead or what? If he's entombed that would mean he's dead as a doornail, right? So, how can he be happy about anything you do, or even give orders to anyone? Are you worshipping the dead now? Is that something you'd really want to do? Because it sounds freaking creepy to me.

My three:

1. Favorite piece of fluff is the finale to the battle on Isstvan III, when after the defense of the Precentor's Palace (my favorite battle in the fluff) the surviving loyalist marines look up as the final orbital bombardment begins. It is a completely depressing but also completely appropriate ending to the story arc of the first three Horus Heresy books.

2. When Astelan drops the line "He was waiting to see who won" (or whatever the exact words were).

3. The great back and forth between Torin and Haegr throughout the novel Wolfblade.

I generally like the Ciaphas Cain Novels as well because they bring some genuine humor to the 40K universe, but the premise is a straight rip off of the Flashman novels by George MacDonald Fraser. It's literally Flashman in 40K without the naughty bits that Fraser inserted every five pages

Cry some more, it was meant as a joke.
The story is called "Love can bloom" or something, which is a MGS reference. The ENTIRE story is filled with in-jokes.
Do you heckle comedians too?

I'm pretty sure the chapter mentioned in this story was the lamenter's chapter.
