Hi I’m just getting back into 40k (having played only a handful of games since 2nd edition) and just wanted to get an opinion on this army list I’ve made to make sure it’s vaguely competitive. I used to play elder so this army is quite a departure from what I’m used to.

Daemon Prince – MoS, Wings, Lash of submission (155)
Sorcerer – MoS, Wings, Lash of submission (145)

6 x Noise Marines, 5 x Sonic Blaster, Blastmaster (185)
6 x Noise Marines, 5 x Sonic Blaster, Blastmaster (185)
6 x Noise Marines inc Champ, PW, Doom siren, 5 x Sonic Blaster (190)
6 x Noise Marines inc Champ, PW, Doom Siren (165)

6 x Raptors, MoS, 2 x Meltagun (160)

2 x Obliterators (150)

1 x Vindicator (125)
2 x Rhino (70)

The two Rhino’s go with the second two Noise marine squads. Obviously it’s pretty much stand back and shoot with the last Noise Marine squad, Raptors and Daemon Prince going for a flank, which I can throw in the third Noise Marine squad as well if needed.

Even though I have a reasonable grasp of the rules I don’t really have much of an idea of what type of armies people are playing and what nasty tricks they have up there sleaves. So if I’ve missed something obvious let me know.

Thanks

I'd replace the Raptors with three Obliterators.
Shooty Noise Marines don't need an AC.

In your last two noise marine squads, you shouldnt have a blastmaster and you shouldnt have a powerfist. Drop them both to give the other squad 5 sonic blasters and a power weapon. Blastmasters work better as heavy weapons, so shouldnt be in rhino squads. Powerfists dont take advantage for a noise marines high initiative.

You dont really have any way to kill heavy tanks. Blastmasters and vindicators cant opperate as dedicated anti-tank because their chance to scatter off it too high. You may want to drop the raptors to get some oblits so you can kill vehicles well at range.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?

You have spent too much on upgrades and not enough on bodies.

Either go 2 sorcs or 2 demon princes. One of each means they can be dealt with one at a time.

I would also go all rhinos for your troops. In a low model count list, the increased survivability is a big deal. If you really are planning to sit way back and fire the blastmaster, why waste points on sonic weapons?

Why do you have champs in the first two squads with no upgrades on them? Don't take champs in shooty squads. Use the points you save there to take rhinos.

Likewise, your assault/close combat squads don't need a 40 point blastmaster they won't use.

Drop the plasma pistol for a second meltagun in the raptor squad. Drop the champ in the raptor squad and use them to tank hunt and support your other squads in assault.

Alright so if I get rid of the two aspiring champs and probably the raptor champ as well and adjust the weapon configureation of the squads I have then I still need something to kill tanks at range.

The obliterator models don't really apeal to me would some havocs or possibly a dreadnought or two be a viable alternative I'm not really sure what I would drop to include them though.

I only included the daemon prince because I figured he could have a crack at any vehicals that got to close, should I replace him with a Chaos Lord?

Anyway I will do a major revision of my list and post it up tommorow.

Well, a Chaos Lord can be instantly killed. Therefore, I'd go with a DP.

I found that nicely painted Obliterators are really appealing.

OK Ive just edited my army list. Is this looking better now? At the moment it's 10 points over but I will wait untill I see what else needs changing.

Looks better.
I'd take two winged DPs instead of one DP and a Sorcerer.
To save points, you could drop the sonic blasters. A shooty unit sitting in the backfield will hardly shoot the sonic blasters.
