This came up this weekend in a game i was playing and I think me and my friends have been playing it wrong for a long time. If, in my shooting phase, I shoot at a unit. Then in my assault phase, I assault that same unit. Do I still get a +1 attack for charging or do I loose that bonus because I shot in the shooting phase?

6900 and still going

You still get it, regardless of what you shot at the enemy (baring any special rules that say otherwise of course)

The only time you don't get it I can remember is if the Enemy has Defensive Grenades (Quite rare, only a handful of units have them), or if they have True Grit (even rarer, only Space Wolves and Grey Knights have this, and Wolves wont have it for much longer )

agreed - to add to the list (i dont have my codex) but there is an IG unit that gets defensive grenades (maybe vets doct?) and some tau units get them also.

No Guard units, but Tau have Photon Grenades for Pathfinders and Firewarriors, there is a Daemon Upgrade that gives both Assault and Defensive Grenades, Plague Marines have them too IIRC and Ironclads have them if you buy the Upgrade

Gwar,

You are wrong Vets do have the option for defensive grenades.

Look on Page 40 of the codex under Snare Mines.

Ah, yeah, Snare mines. My Bad, haven't read the codex through well enough, I don't play Bandwaggon Armies.

So, Ig Vets with Snare Mines also have them.

(P.S. You are only Wrong when you have all the facts and still get it incorrect, I just didn't read the Codex through Properly, and thus was Misinformed/Mistaken, not Wrong.)

That was a 4th ed. rule

but its a core rule and one thing to remember is that core rules always apply unless something specifically states that it dosent apply. I.E. true grit says you dont get the +1 for charging. So yes move 6" shoot assault weapons and charge away (pistols are assault 1).

...What? The definition of wrong is "not correct". That means, since you claimed that no Imperial Guard unit has the option to buy Defensive Grenades you were wrong, or incorrect. Mistaken and wrong are synonyms!

Synonyms are different words (or sometimes phrases) with identical or very similar meanings.

In this Case, Wrong indicates I have all the Information, and make an Incorrect Statement or Assumption.
Mistaken is where I misread or fail to read a relevant price of Information.

In this case, I failed to notice the mention of Defensive Grenades. I corrected my Mistake. I was not "wrong".

It depends upon what the meaning of the word 'IS' means. If is means is, than Gar is wrong, that's one thing. If it means, there is none, that was a completely true statement.

I hate that Gar guy. You can tell the quality of a man by the length of his name, and no good has ever come from three letters.

It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. ROTFL

In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"...

But you did have access to the relevant information. You just didn't read it properly. Otherwise, no one is ever "wrong" they are just mistaken. Missed an answer on a History test? You didn't get the answer wrong, you were just mistaken and read the History book incorrectly.

And just FYI, here's the definition of mistaken: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/mistaken

erroneous; incorrect; wrong

Is it really that hard to just say, "Oops, I had it wrong" instead of playing these stupid word games (and making yourself look twice as foolish)?

Wrong - Not in conformity with fact or truth; incorrect or erroneous (free online dictionary).

Unfortunately being wrong is not a subjective thing - it is entirely possible (and indeed most likely) to be 'mis- or under- informed, and wrong' simultaneously.

Ignorance is not a good defence.

Funny thing is that if you think being wrong is only possible when you have all the facts, then even positing to Gwar! that he is wrong about the definition of wrong he could easily say "I'm not wrong about that, I just didn't have all the facts." So I guess maybe he's mistaken?

Since it's obviously ridiculous to argue and or care if someone is wrong or mistaken, and I like ridiculous things, I'm joining in!

So... I disagree completely that being wrong is not a subjective thing. In fact, I think you would have a hard time proving anything with 100% certainty (I haven't found anyone able to do it yet). Implying that wrong is not a subjective thing is appealing to some sort of objective truth, and I just don't believe in that good old capital T Truth. Without knowing the 'ultimate' truth, you can never really know if someone was wrong! Oh noes!
