hey im planning on buying a Lord of Pestiliance from ultra forge

and im intrigued, if i used games workshoppy bits on it and GS some of it
, would i be able to use it in a gamesworkshop in a game?
im getting it anyways cos its amazingly cool. i also want the plaguelord and the Vrock.
tbh i dont wanna convert it, but im worried that i wont be able to use it. mah
i guess ill cry myself to sleep because its such a great model and if i cant use it....well ill be miffed

Not quite sure in what scope you're asking so I'll answer broadly:

If it's just you and your friends at home, who gives a rotten feth? If you're playing at a FLGS I can't imagine that anyone would seriously have a problem. At a GW store I can't imagine that the Red Shirts would care enough to bother you (although they they might flap their gums about letting you use it). At a tourney you might be SOL. At an official GW event you probably would be SOL.

Yeah I think the rule on it is it has to be %75 GW product. So 25% can be GS and etc.

I dont see a problem with it.
You would probably need to put it on one of the standard GW bases
Then maybe scult on a symbol of nurgle or a set of those antler jobbies i never quite understood.

I mean its like a forgeworld piece really, they are all kinda different but dont they get allowed easily enough. Id argue fiercly myself if they wernt to let me use it.

Like Doctor Optmial said, if its friends of at your local GW, they wouldnt care regardless

Ive heard 50% has to be GW. I guess you could always try the ol "I made it from GW GS" lol

A GW store might give you a hard time also it wouldnt be allowed in a GW tourny , but at an indy store or event it would be ok . If its painted nice and looks really cool GW might let you use it in there store .

OT I didnt know they were as bad as it sounds with now GW models, I mean obvs would have to be partially GW but dont people use other types of models in conversions and armys alot without any hassle ?

hmm good point. tbh im only worried because im paranoid that if i used it then theyd find out it came from ultraforge, whioch was breaching theyre copyright....id feel bad about bringing down a great model company. it probs wont happen but..... :S incidently i really DONT wanna convert it, but if i will what could i do to make it look cool without looking like ive just stuck bits on it

If your going for the nurgley look, could always make eyes out of GS, or open wounds

hmm my local gw wouldn't have a problem with it personally if its on an appropriately sized base. I don't see where the problem is especially if your running more than one DP and want some variety.

When we talk about GW being afraid of/unaware of the Internet we're (mostly) joking. I can't imagine that they're not aware of Ultraforge, it's a pretty well known company.

And let's suppose they did catch you and refuse to let you play at a GW event (likely) or GW store (less likely) it's not like they're going to go all =I= on you, seize the miniature and interrogate you as to the origins of it. They'll just tell you to get out.

Well just so you know, it will be diff at every gw you go to. at my local gw, my friend brought his ultraforge bloodthirster (or thats what he used it as) and they made him put it away cause it wasnt 95% GW... then again it might have been the certain manager cause they usually arent that strict.

Anywho, you wont have to worry about Ultraforge coming down from that. Seriously a court judge would just throw it out. It doesnt have ANY markings that GW has copyrighted, and it doesnt look anything like a mini from GW. Unless GW could prove that ANY likeliness at all is grounds for a lawsuit, you dont have to worry.
Just buy it and enjoy it man!

And in other news today: UK toys manufacturer Games Workshop has announced plans to sue Michelangelo, citing copyright infringement in his 1541 fresco "The Last Judgment". GW lawyers were quoted as saying "Mr. Michelangelo has willfully infringed upon our copyright by depicting scenes similar to those represented in our client's publications." Michelangelo was not immediately avaialbe for comment, having been dead for 445 years.

If you're playing with friends or a FLGS, use what you want. The overwhelming majority won't give a rat's ass. If you're going to an RTT, most of time, they won't give a rat's ass either. In some of the more high profile tourneys, like Adepticon or a GW-sponored one, you will probably have to leave him at home. If some average Joe hosts one in a FLGS, they will not care.

If players at the FLGS or smaller tourney hosts won't allow it, you probably don't want to play them anyway.

Yeah, most if not all GW stores dont care about non gw heads or wings... its not an entire different model just a small portion that most people wont even notice except for whom you tell and yourself.

If it looks so cool that the other customer sees it and says "cool! thats from ultraforge? im getting it!"
then GW will be complaining. Because thats the DP they could be selling .

Yea GW really COULD make some of the minis that badass and not charge what FW does. But thats the way of things.


To OP, yea your guard will have no problems with different heads. I dont even see you getting into it at a serious tourny. Its just a head swap basically. Someday Im planning on getting into the guard, and Im thinking of going the pig iron head route. They just look awesome! with pretty much any of those heads.

Just use the model as a hero for your game
or a special character
that would be aloud at my GW

hmmm i seem to have only posted one piccy.....ahh well if you like em ill be bothered to post more. my army will eventualy be 2 squads (like the one above) a unit of imperial guard scouts ( not as cool as it sounds) and maybe a command squad. my idea is that these guys are mercenaries so ill eventualy add kroot to the mix as well. the daemon prince wont really fit in, but i might change the theme. what do ya think?
