I played in a recent tournament and there was one army with a unit of absolute filth. It was filth as it was a mixture of 3rd and 5th edition codexes as GW can't seem to standardise anything...

Wondering if this is right due to the codex wording:

Wolf Guard, Terminator armour, Rune Priest with Balms, Wolves, Cyclones, re-roll first wound thing, SS all round with CC weapons

So basically, the models have a 2+/3+ due to the new marine dex andd rules saying "check C:SM"

After you have hit that, the first failed save is ignored/rerolled (cant remember)

Every turn the first wound is ignored

Then, once you get through, he can allocate the wound onto the terminator/priest but kill the wolf if it fails?

The SW wording would seem to suggest this???

He steamrollled everything but got a draw vs balanced marines which put him 2nd place. (Hah! for having such an unbelievably cheesey unit!)

Did I miss something? Is this actually possible?

You missed nothing it is really this bad ... now on a lighter note SW are getting a new codex soon. Expect a massive reduction in power

that unit is also crazy expensive, and anything that is AP1 AP2 or that ignores armor saves will nullify the healing potions and balms, and he cant use runic charms on his 3++ save.

They are gonna make them Bland and Generic.

Ok if i'm to guess you'll get the following

Standard FOC

HQ Wolf Lord, Wolf Guard (aka chapter master and captain ... expect similar rules for them getting Honour guard/wolf guard with 2+ save and Command squad/Wolf guard),0-1 Venerable Dread (or possibly a super wolf HQ dead), Rune Priest (aka Librarian) and Wolf Priest (aka Chaplin) .... Also expect every thing but the dread to be able to take 0-4 wolves.

Elites Dreadnoughts (all SM types ... i hope with wolfy upgrades), Iron Priests (aka Techmarines), Wolf Scouts (better then SM scouts possibly getting to choose which board edge to out flank from) and Assault terminators (or wolf guard).

Troop Grey Hunter packs (Aka Tactical Squad), Blood Claw Pack (aka Korn Berserker)

Fast Copy and past from codex SM

Heavy Copy and past from codex SM replacing Devastators with Long Fang Packs (still only 5 man strong, still able to shoot to targets) and include Leman Russ Exterminators (same as IG but BS 4 and don't come as a squadron)

Replace Tactical Marine with Chaos Marine and Fast Attack Copypaste as Fast Attack Copypaste Minus Jump packs and you have it about right.

i got a look at the gw release schedule in our local gw store while an area manager was talking to our store manager he left his folder open on the paint station next to me sooooo i just peeked a little ...5 new boxes for them...and he said blood claws and gray hunters are a new sculpt not just a repackage after i said " are there any new stuff or just rehashed old stuff ??"...woo hoo

Refuse with enough people and and it becomes illegal, at least if the owner of said army is actually interested in playing games.
If general consencus doesn't shut out this cheesehead try the following:
Find an eldar player who still has the 'craftworld: eldar' codex, make a mechanized biel-tan list with up to 6 elite units which that count as troops, using current eldar codex to supply the units, and make sure to play a objective based mission.

Craftworld: Eldar is out of date and no longer legal, along with the codex it was written for.

If you wanted to play a "time machine" style 3rd edition game, you could do this. But anyone who rolls into their FLGS looking for a pickup game using a codex that's 2 editions old should expect to be turned down, if not laughed at.

Codex Craftworld: Eldar is no longer legal because newer versions of the same codex have been released in the meantime. No such luck for all the codexes (sp?) you mentioned so until newer versions are released they are perfectly legal to use.

Space Wolves, Necrons etc have Codexes 2 editions old, and therefore apparently worthy of being Laughed at.

rule of thumb I'll play any codex that's still sold in my local GW (FYI they stop selling SW arround Christmas at both my local stores)
