What happens if a model can only see the top of a vehicle? Which AV do you use and do any other rules apply? I'm under the impression of the side armour because Barrage weapons always use side AV (when using barrage) to represent the barrage hitting the top of the vehicle.

You use whatever facing you are in. Barrage hitting Side ofc.

I think Cityfight/Cities of Death had rules for it, but they don't apply in normal 40k.
In normal 40k, you just use whatever facing you are in.

Apocalypse specifies its side armor. The main rule book actually shows a top down image for armor facings that is pretty specific.

"It is not the bullet with your name on it that should worry you, it's the one labeled "To whom it may concern. . ."

Thanks Gwar! for the help. Last game I played this came up and we used side AV. Looks like we played it wrong.

HURR DURR TMIR HURR! You Played it Right HURR!!!

But seriously, don't worry too much. TBH it's a reasonable house rule, so long as you allow for Siege vehicles (like the Vindicator) to have Top Armour = to the Front, I'd have no problem with it, especially since the rule is found in not 1, but 3 Supplements. Hell, it aint even a house rule, just say "Sup Dawg, we usin dis from Da Cityfight Book, We cool?"
