It may be because its so late, or because I'm not paying as much attention as I should at this time of the late night but I have a problem with the Morale testing after combat.

I lose a close combat with my Dark Eldar Warriors by 2. I take the test at Ld 6. I pass the leadership test. I don't suffer from No Retreat rules do I?

I'm told that I am since there are armies with the ability to automatically pass a leadership test they have to take No Retreat rolls. This makes picking up the dice to see if my chosen models in combat pointless in my opinion. I stand a better chance of running away and taking more pot shots since I might not be able to regroup.

"You need to roll less then 3 on your Morale test to stay in combat and avoid being shot up" -Dice roll

"Woot! Oh yeah baby I am staying in and plan on rolling you up next turn!"

"Congrats, nice roll. Now make 5 armour saves for staying."

I don't think so, seeing as it's not the Fearless USR.

If it is, you're taking wounds my friend.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

Very Wrong. You only take No Retreat if you Autopass the or Choose to Pass the Test without rolling any dice. If you sucessed in the Morale test, you do not suffer No retreat, even if you needed to roll a -7 and got (Via Insane Heroism).

I still don't see how the roll of the dice and passing is any different then auto passing though. Granted there is the chance for failure and you breaking from combat, but that is for balance.

Seems to me that there really isn't any point to the whole Morale test section of the book when most if not all of the armies have a item, special rule, or whatever that skips the section anyway.

Lets face it so far the only time you need to worry about it is during the shooting phase. Other then that it almost seems out lived and pointless.

No retreat only applies if you automatically pass, not if you pass.

Its the old Calgar god of war arguement again. I see were this is going.

P.M. me for rational Eldar Advice, both on list construction or Tactics.

Also feel free to query me about rules from the Eldar and Space Marine codices, as well as the General Rule book.

LOL. I never heard of that old arguement, but it sounds interesting.

Well I think the whole major problem is the wording of the abilities and the rules. Keep it simple. Hell use some fluff or something.

"The Blood God demands blood, and because you serve him you will always take extra punishment for not winning the combats!" - LOL

They should just say that since you lost and utterly refuse to run away you take the modifier in wounds. Instead of you pass as though you had actually rolled what you needed to stay in combat, but suffer a penalty for paying too many points per model.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The bottom line in this to me is that it counts against you one way.

If you make the roll everything is okay and the sun shall shine upon you and butterflies and birds will perch on your shoulders and life goes on.

If you make the roll without having to roll you get a kick to the lower region, a headbutt to the face, and slop thrown at you.

LOL

Best way to think about it

Lose but pass - You know your losing so you stay on your guard for the next round
Lose but fail - You know your losing and run away, and may get smooshed as such
Lose but autopass (fearless) - Your cocky nature makes you reckless in the fight so you take extra wounds

Exactly what I figured. Just wish the people who wrote these rules actually took the time to have little Timmy proof read it.

Rule number 12 of the 100 Things I'll do if I ever became a Evil Overlord-

"One of my advisors will be an average five-year-old child. Any flaws in my plan that he is able to spot will be corrected before implementation."

LOL

Thanks.

If you read the Morale section, it tells you that units that are immune to Morale checks or automatically pass them for some reason do not take the check, and never fall back.

If you aren't immune or automatically passing, you roll. No Retreat! specifically tells you it only applies to units that do not roll at all.
