They look very glossy Luna. Also love hearts on a Nakovalny, even with the cross is a bit off IMHO.

Oh, there are quite some real units within the worlds armies that have a heart as their unit symbol, no problem with that.
But you should do something against the glossy shine. Maybe a thin coat of matt varnish?

Hmm ... i guess this is why people dont take pics of minis with gloss coats :x
They look incredible in person , they actually look like its made out of metal ( like cars ) But i agree they look so weird in photo .
The Nakovalny have hearts because it belongs to the special character.
Its not 100% done yet , so i need your opinions .
The color is dark , it has an enamel shine to it , if i use dark paint chips the same way Rakham does , im worried it wouldnt be visible. Does that mean i should use ligher gray to paint the chips?
What do you guys feel about adding "snow" onto them?
I gave the Kollossus snow , but not sure what to do on the lager striders.

I think your snow worked, though it was better snow over rough earth rather than tarmac, snow over earth and plants can be patchy, but snow over tarmac is very even unless disturbed, and the disturbance would leave signs.
Hey what would I know, you are the one living in Canada.

I dunno myself either , I live in BC and we only had snow for a few days here . If i go to mountains , then its all white and smooth like you said .
But that looks rather boring , so i tried to have some ground showing like it just started , or its melting . In some areas i have been to (the north ) , the snow is really weird.
Its actually dry like sand , as in it doesnt stick to the ground , it gets blown around . ( it was -minus 47 celcius ) I would think its cold but it wasnt... all i know is there is no moisture around
for me to feel the coldness , oh and inside my nostril is frozen.
But the thing i have question for is , what do you guys feel about the snow ontop of the strider , not the base.

I would presume thr striders are hot and steamy, but thast is my Battletech influence showing. Tanks when running dont remain snow clad long.
The snow on the Dragonovs looks right though, but you can easily get this wrong.
Are you planning on modding your stripped down Odin and Manon figures? Manon looks a little underdressed, though again as a downed mech pilot she might not be wearing much. Though again that is more Battletech than At-43.

Woo , never thought of the machines been hot ( no idea where their engines are )
Yes it can easily go wrong with the applied snow ( thats why i chose the Dragonovs , smaller areas are easier to do )
Not sure what you mean by stripping . Im not planning on stripping anything , i paint over them. I was only wearing 2 layers of cloth during the -47 c im sure they'll be ok
with future clothing materials and genetic modification ( or im just lazy and dont want to make coats for them! ^^ )

The Red Blok heroes with the Urod are wearing little clothing (stripped down). These will look very odd if fielded in a winterblok, for that matter so will Timofiyeva. I am reasonably sure when it is snowing in Canada you dont like showing your chest like it was Miami beach.
Not exactly dressed for outside in winter. Saying that I am very cold resistant, but two layers of cloth below -40 thats unusual indeed. What are you Luna, some sort of ice monster?

Those are Rackham studio images, you would have to do very well to match them.

Its common if you want to theme your army, or touch up errors, or customise the striders of heroes.
However most players play stright from the box, this doesnt mean they wont tinker afterwards.

I try.... but i have alot of problem with painting large curved surfaces ( all red blok are round with large areas )
Yes we all love the banana lovers!
Hmm , for some reason my old matt varnish bottle isnt comming out as mist , it comes out like bug spray ( a stream )
are there anyways to fix it? i tried poking it with a sewing needle but it refused to work. ( ended up spraying spiders with it near our front door)
Mom came home and yelled why does the house smell like poison lol

The gloss coat could work in your favor!
If you haven't tried "inking" yet the gloss coat increases surface tension allowing ink washes to settle in the nooks and crannies. one this dries a liberal coat of matte spray will bring everything together seal it and tone down the gloss. A favorite ink wash used by some is testers "smoke" very thin and watery and we often suggest you cut it down to half and half( water or alcohol) to ease your self into using ink washes.
I simple ink wash and some basing can make the standard AT-43 paint job really pop and is very little to do with artistic skill and is more technique for those who don't care for painting...
So far the *** units look very good

Great work.
Not for snow on the models themselves as it would either melt from the heat of the engines, or come off during movement. Maybe some on the feet if you're going for a muddy/clumpy field look.
I'm not a mechanical guy, but I suspect constant snow/heat and cold again would tend to create ice around recessed areas. Perhaps that's where your shine comes from?
