I went to the Arcon
40k tournament, the largest
40k tournament in Norway. Havn't played in a tournament for two years, and that was a blast, so I was looking forward to a really good time.
I had great plans to take orderly pictures of every turn etc, but that flew out the window fast, so instead we have a more random collection of pics, will hopefully be able to convey the message anyways.

Missions:
All missions were objective missions, with a secondary objective that required you to kill a spesific unit. Each player rolled randomly for which objectives he had to control, so you could end up having to hold your opponents objectives etc. You gained the most points for having both of your objectives, and making sure that the enemy didn't control any of his.
Game 1: Orks
Dawn of war
So, I drew against orks in the first round, a bit nervous until I saw the list, still didn't take my victory for granted, especially as I rolled up dawn of war, limiting the damage I could inflict before he closed in on me:
Warboss
9ish Nobs, lots of stuff (no painboy – my opponent commented on this, he had lost his painboy model or something - that is bad luck

)
- trukk
20 sluggas
20 shootas
2x 10 snotlings
15 burnas
Battlewagon
2x deff kopta
3x zapp gun
Pre-game:
I had to control the two objectives in the middle of the field, not too bad, while my opponent also get's the one in the water and then he has to hold the one on the hill in my DZ, no objective camping for those gretchin. I won the roll for deployment and gave it to him, since it was
DoW.
Turn 1
He moves in, nothing is in range or in
LOS to shoot. He does a major error, boxing in his battlewagon with boyz in the upper right corner. (Steep hills were impassable for tanks)
In my turn, my army rolls in, I get lucky on a night-fight roll with my
LR, and I destroy the nobs' trukk. Fatally for my opponent, his nobs get's pinned. The trukk also blows up 6'', killing 7 gretchin from a nearby unit, they then flee off the board. That is one hell of a battle-cannon shot. My other
LR also get's lucky on the night-fight roll, and then proceeds to take out 17 orks. That was one amazing turn concidering the night fighting.
Turn 2
He moves closer, shielding the nobs with gretchin, also tries some shots, but only a single guardsman dies. I destroy the zapp-guns, and I probably knocked out a couple of nobs.
Turn 3
He charges the squad in the woods, killing them, but his remaining ork squad is now standing near a couple of flamers. Everything else moves forward.
My vendetta zooms onto the table in the upper left corner, dumps off the melta-vets, which proceeds to kill the battlewagon. The charging shoota boyz die from flamers and other stuff, leaving a single guy with a rokkit. I kill off the zapp-gun crew and some nobs, and then the
PBS makes the nobs run away. I also kill the last three slugga boyz.
Turn 4
His burnas flame my vets and the vendetta, all vets die in the flames, then they charge the vendetta, but only rip off a lascannon. The gretchin dive into the water on the objective
I kill some burnas, all nobs and all gretchin. I have both objectives.
Turn 5
His last shoota, fleeing, kills the vendetta, moral victory for my opponent
I kill all but two burnas, and the rokkit-boy also gets away.
Result: 20-1
My opponent was a great guy, keeping his spirits and humor up the entire game, making my first game at the tournament a really good experience. Thanks for the game dude
Automatically Appended Next Post: So, I'm up in the top, and is placed at table 3 against a black templar player that massacred a thousands sons player in the first round.
Game 2: Black Templars
Pitched battle
His list:
Marshal Helbrecht
Emperors champion
15 crusaders, melta, fist
15 crusaders, melta, fist
2x
LR crusader
vindicator
I litteraly gaped when I saw his figures. He picked up his three tanks and placed them on the table. ''Is that all?'' I asked several times

I took first turn, eager to try out the vendetta scout-kill move. Fortunately, he deployed in a way that made it possible.
I scouted my vendetta up to his two land raiders. He failed to seize.
Turn 1
My vendetta gleefully deliver the veterans, they only hit once, but immobilize one crusader. Not as good as I had hoped, but good enough, and my vendetta makes up for them by immobilizing the other with its one lascannon – GAME OVER!
The templars pile out, and the vets die. The vendetta loses a gun, but is free to escape next turn – hey, a bonus

My other vets loose their chimera to the vindicator.
Turn 2
My plasma russ opens up on one squad, and it is wiped out, only
EC with 1 wound left. My
CCS takes out vindi. His marshal squad hides in
LR, not sure what he was planning to do with them
Turn 3
EC eats some plasma and lascannons, and dies. He moves his other squad out again
Turn 4
In a repeat of turn 2, his squad dies, except Helbrecht. My
CCS chimera dies from a land raider
MM, and are then eventually wittled down to only commander
Turn 5
Helbrecht gets to slaughter an infantry squad before he dies
Result: 18-2
Automatically Appended Next Post: After two games, I'm in the lead, as the other top players got draws or minor victories. I look around, and guess that I'm up against a 3x hammerhead tau player
Battle 3 – Tau
Dawn of war, I give my opponent first turn.
Commander, AFP,
MP,
TA
2x suit,
tl-
MP,
TA, 2x shield drones
2x suit,
tl-
MP,
TA, 2x shield drones
3x hammerhead
2x 12
FW
- 2x devilfish
2x 10 kroot
This list has what it takes to take me out, and the battlefield is not kind at all. A huge building cutting the field in two. In addition, I roll up the worst objectives, having to take the two that are far awat, and I have to split my army in two to be able to win. I choose to go all mech and armour on one end, as the objective is far away there, and place all my infantry on the other end. Mistake! The huge building in the middle makes sure that my forces can't support eachother.
Turn 1
He kills nothing I think. I get lucky on a spot-roll and kill two suits, and here, my luck has run out
Turn 2
One unit of kroot enter, hammerhead kills
CCS chimera, 2 survive the explosion (all but one vehicle that was damaged in this battle actually exploded), some guardsmen die, the guardsmen in the corner get wittled down slowly, they won't really play much of a role this battle, getting slowly wiped down to two men by kroot and that damn airburst projector :/ I make some daring moves for the left objective late game, but my four charging guardsmen are little match for a devilfish.
I immobilize and 2xWD a hammerhead, leaving it a useless hull.
Turn 3
He knocks weapon off medusa (crap – but then again, he didn't fail a single coversave for his tanks this battle, I think he made something like 12-15 coversaves on his tanks this battle :/) My vendetta enters, but because of coversaves, it of course fails to do anything.
Turn 4-6
This battle now just turns into a war of attrition, that he is winning because of his insane scatter-dice and coversaves, and my own inability to get a hit with a scatter-dice (only started getting hits when I used his

)
He kills my vendetta, we play slugging-match for a tie (or I play for a tie, he plays for a win), as my infantry have no chance of taking his left objective. My vets and
CCS battle it out with firewarriors and drones, eventually taking out a hammerhead, devilfish, 12 firewarriors and 2 drones. I have 3 vets on the objective, actually securing a draw on turn 6. We roll for turn 7... and it's a 4 :(
Turn 7
He finishes the three vets off, barely.
Result: 1-14
A devastating loss. If I hadn't had such horrible luck, and he hadn't had such insane luck on scatters and coversaves, this would have been another battle, the turn 7 roll make sure that even the draw was snatched from my grasp. Even with all the horrible luck, it was a highly enjoyable battle, it was insanely intense down to the last moment, where I had four 3+ coversaves to pass on 1 veteran, I failed two :/
