Say I manage to line up across my opponents board edge with 5 squads of bikers after he keeps his army in reserve and gives me the first turn. All the squads have melta's. His tanks would have to tank shock me to get on the board. What happens if I death or glory and manage to stop the tank shock? Is the tank and squad destroyed in the case of a transport?

Bonus Question on reserves. If a squad with a dedicated transport decides to walk on the board instead of inside the transport are the tank and squad still a single reserve roll?

There are no rules to cover this situation. Figure it out pre game.

Many people will say that in the case that they are forced to stop and are unable to move onto the board all the way then they are destroyed, but there are no rules to back this up (that I am aware of).

As Gwar said...there are no rules for this. Work it out pre-game.

Actually, this is a moot point, only individual models that are actually in the path of the vehicle may use death or glory, so unless you line up his entire backfield with nothing but melta troops then he would be able to tank shock your rank-and-file troops to break free.

THE HORUS HERESY: Emprah: Hours, go reconquer the galaxy so there can be a new golden age. Horus: But I should be Emprah, bawwwwww! Emprah: Magnus, stop it with the sorcery. Magnus: But I know what's best, bawwwwww! Emprah: Horus, tell Russ to bring Magnus to me because I said so. Horus: Emprah wants you to kill Magnus because he said so. Russ: Fine. Emprah's always right. Plus Ole Red has already been denounced as a traitor and I never liked him anyway. Russ: You're about to die, cyclops! Magnus: O noes! Tzeentch, I choose you! Bawwwww! Russ: Ah well. Now to go kill Horus. Russ: Rowboat, how have you not been doing anything? Guilliman: . . . I've been writing a book. Russ: Sigh. Let's go. Guilliman: And I fought the Word Bearers! Horus: Oh shi--Spess Puppies a'comin? Abbadon: And the Ultramarines, sir. Horus: Who? Anyway, this looks bad. *enter Sanguinis* What are you doing here? Come to join me? Sanguinius: *throws self on Horus's power claws* Alas, I am undone! When you play Castlevania, remember me! *enter Emprah* Emprah: Horus! So my favorite son killed my favorite daughter! Horus: What about the Lion? Emprah: Never liked her. Horus: No one does. Now prepare to die! *mortally wounds Emprah*Emprah: Au contraire, you dick. *kills Horus* Dorn: Okay, now I just plug this into this and . . . okay, it works! Emprah? Hellooooo? Jonson: I did nothing! Guilliman: I did more nothing that you! Jonson: Nuh-uh. I was the most worthless! Guilliman: Have you read my book? Dorn: No one likes that book. Khan: C'mon guys. It's not that bad. Dorn: I guess not. Russ: You all suck. Ima go bring the Emprah back to life.

actually his board edge would be filled up with 26 bikers and 4 land speeders. 16 of those bikers have melta's. 5 squads of 5 including attack bike and the captain has a combi-melta. It would depend on how they get strung along, but with a majority of the models having melta's it might work.

There is the idea that no rule may be used that will prevent a model from coming on field from reserve.

This is mostly to fix problems with slow and purposeful or bood angel rhino overcharges though.

but what is that idea based upon? The general consensus it seems is that there is no rule to swing either way.

That's not quite what the rule you're mentioning says. What it actually says is that if the model possesses a special rule that might prevent it from moving on, that rule is ignored in the phase when it arrives from reserves. Page 94, BRB. So other rules could indeed pervent it from moving onto the table.

As to the OPs question, this has come up several times, more in relation to "What happens to an Outflanking unit that can't come on due to a picket fence of models along the side of the board?" There is no straight up rules answer to that one. Precedence says they are destroyed, since that was GWs answer to the same question in regards to SW Scout using Behind Enemy Lines and a rear area security picket fence. But that FAQ was long ago and far away. Others insist that they go back into Reserves, ala mishap, but obviously nothing states that this occurs.
Bottom line, there is no rules answer, this is just one you're gonna have to work out when/if it occurs.

I'd be more than a little perturbed if someone pulled this on me and it was ruled that my army was destroyed because they could not come on from reserves.

So don't put all your eggs in one basket. Then it can't happen.

First things first. Any player that lets this...
actually his board edge would be filled up with 26 bikers and 4 land speeders.
happen, really deserves what he gets. You really have to be asleep at the wheel.

That said, it seems to me that Tank Shock is a special rule that may stop him from moving onto the board, so it is ignored.
So now he can't come on the board at all.

Which brings us to Don Mondo's situation.
There is also some precedent for leaving them in reserves (Webway portals, necron warriors, ) they are no more definitive than the Space wolf one.
