We're about to start a Warbands campaign at my FLGS and I was thinking of going with WoC since they look awesome. I play CSM in 40k but the only fantasy army I know is Wood Elves. Since warbands are around the 400-500 point level, are WoC a good choice? Is there anything particularly awesome or not about them, namely the core units? Anything I should avoid like the plague? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Avoid all skirmish armies like lizardmen skink spam and WEs as they will just avoid you all game and shoot you to death.

Forever alone

Keep in mind that you have some of the best core troops in the game; Warriors.

Higher than average strength and toughness with a great armour save makes for an awesome unit. Their only problem is that they're expensive and slow. Give them great weapons and you have terrifyingly strong and tough anvil units.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

The sink.

Honestly I'm not sure WoC is a good idea for warbands. Most of the army is very expensive, and lacks ranged attacks. So you'll be outnumbered and your opponents can shoot you to death while you try to get into melee.

If you really want to, I would try units of marauders with mark of slaanesh so they don't run before they get stuck in. Throw in a hero and some dogs and you'll quickly hit 500 points.
