Hi Guys, any comments on my army list (revised for 5th edition - last used some time back in the 90's). I am limited by the models I currently own but would welcome any advice on how to expand!

HQ
CCS with carapace armour, boltgun, lascannon, standard, vox.
Psyker.
Priest with shotgun.

Elites
9x Ratlings.
5 x Storm Troopers (old models - not even on GW collectors website anymore!).

Troops
PCS with krak grenades, boltgun & p/fist, 3x melta, vox.
dedicated transport Chimera with hull HF.
2x Infantry Squads with vox.
2x Heavy Squads with 3x mortar and 1 mixed (HB, AC, ML).
Special Weapons Squad with 3x flamer.
Veteran squad with Demolitions, demo charge, GL, melta, flamer, vox.
dedicated transport Chimera with hull HB and pintle HS.

Fast Support
3x Scout Sentinels with multilasers.
10x Rough Riders.

Heavy Support

Lemen Russ Battle Tank with hull LC & sponson HB's.

I'm looking for a fun, versatile army to fight all-comers. My thinking initially is that the Lemen Russ & CCS sit back doling out orders to infantry and heavy squads for long range firepower, vets travel with priest & psyker travels with PCS in Chimera and try to get close to enemy tanks. Ratlings infiltrate for some early kills on any high toughness / armoured troops and sentinels will prob. be used to outflank in most battles. Rough Riders are my faves and can surprise many a Space Marine player by charging at any troops foolish enough to be left within range or saved for last minute assaults on objectives!

I'd drop the mixed HWT, add another infantry squad, and roll one of each of those weapons into the line squads. Your storm troopers need some sort of special weapons, too. Give them two meltas from your PCS and change the PCS to have 3x Flamers.

How do you plan on tackling AV14?

Fair point re. heavy weapons in line troops rather than the HW squad - I wasn't sure about this & was going to play test both methods a few times. The idea is to maximise efficiency of orders, splitting FRFSRF & BID/FOMT between the line / heavy weapon squads, but this does make the heavy squad an obvious target. Hence the regimental standard so these guys don't make a run for it after 1 HW team gets wasted.

As for AV 14, the demolitions vets have melta bombs & re-roll HTH misses thanks to the Priest. Was planning to run the vet Chimera & the PCS Chimera close together & converge on AV14 targets, using smoke screens and the psykers mindshield to dissuade my opponent from shooting at them. Stormtroopers with meltas might be more effective though, deep striking next to targets.

Thanks for the advice - will give this some thought.

Why not? The AC, HB & ML are all effective against infantry & the AC & ML can threaten light vehicles too. But above all that, the squad is manned with non-identical multi-wound models so I can allocate wounds how I want, keeping more heavy weapons firing deeper into the game.

I like it its unconventional and fun I agree with Poke just cuz LRs will cause you trouble but its nice.
