Using the models I have, this is the army list I have put together. As an old 4th ed player, I don't have much in the way of battlewagons, so Im starting with footsloggers and building p a mech force. Any suggestions as to how to improve this footslooger force for now?

Warboss Big Choppa / Shoota-Skorcha / Eavy Armor / Attack Squig
Warboss PK / Cybork Body / Ammo Runt

15 Kommandos 2 Burnas / Snikrot

29 Gretchin 2 Runtherder
30 Boyz Choppa & Slugga / 3* Big Shoota / Nob with PK
30 Boyz Choppa & Slugga / 3* Big Shoota / Nob with PK
30 Boyz Choppa & Slugga / 3* Big Shoota / Nob with PK
30 Boyz Shootas / 3* Big Shoota / Nob with PK

3 Deffkoptas TL Rokkits
3 Deffkoptas TL Rokkits

Total model count : 174
Total PKs : 7
KPs : 10

My plan is to have one warboss join Snikrort and krew to give them more bite. The grots will either hold objectives or act as a screen, depending on the mission. The shoota boys will hold back and hold objectives. The sluggas are the main force to be chewed up -- but at 6 pts each "Crunch all you like, we'll make more". The Deffkopas are there to add more more anti-tank into the army.

The big shootas started as filler models so I could field more boys, and I have found that they are worth the 15 point upgrades as I shoot them the round I'm charging in. Sometimes I just want to lay as much dakka on a unit as possible -- like when Im facing Shrike and 10 infiltrating/fleeting assault terminators in turn 1 and the rest of the marines will be dropping in later on.

ok i shall start with the basic ones first, before we proceed to higher level strategy.

Rule of Thumb 1 - If slugga boyz are walking, you want them running in the shooting phase as well (dont expect them to shoot with pistols). In that case, the big shootas are a waste of points. If you are going to shoot with the big shootas, you don't expect the 27 others to stand there and wait for the 3 fellows to shoot, do you? Even if you argue that you can shoot JUST before you are assaulting that turn, I will still prefer to run and stop 1 inch away from the enemy squad, just to make sure all 30 (or less perhaps) of my boyz will be engaged in combat when I assault. Therefore, do not put big shootas into sluggas mob. You may have them in your shootas mob.

Rule of Thumb 2 - Always give your nob in boyz mob a bosspole. Yes, i know you have 30 and your are fearless, but there are times you will go below 11.

Rule of Thumb 3 - Either make 5 koptas (max it) per squad or 1 kopta per squad.

Rule of Thumb 4 - Give your 1st Warboss a Cybork. There are too many low AP weapons in this era.

Golden Rule : Apart from the threat of pie plate weapons, the difficulty of using horde boyz is manuevoring. Therefore, position yourself properly and do not get into bottleneck situations. You do not want 30 boyz charging in, but only less than 10 engaged in battle.

We can discuss the rest after you make the above basic changes.
