Basically i received a comment like this:

Luna, I can't help but notice that you have those pretty AT-43 models next to unprimed, plastic and metal models. Do you have any very nicely painted models that you've produced to put the AT-43 stuff next to, to then take pictures of it? Maybe you can paint, maybe you can't, but your opinion of the mini's quality lacks some veracity unless you can demonstrate that you know how to paint. Otherwise, it just looks like you set a low bar so your praise doesn't mean much.

So apparently because my painting standards are so low , that i cant even be allowed to properly judge (praise) a Pre Painted product .





Here is the Pre Painted Mini that i love and praised , but supposedly because my bar is so low and i cant paint , i have no right to praise it.

Your necron could use some work but all of the other ones are pretty decent.

I honestly think you paint fine, take for instance that lovely rotting chap under the rhino

You definitely paint better than me anyway

If I was going to put something into the poll I would say you paint to a decent Tabletop quality but I still think you're best at converting your minis

You didn't know that? This is why only accomplished directors with no less than 3 Oscars are allowed to review films and why only pulitzer-prize winning authors can review books.

I myself know that as a medoce painter I have no right to review or advise other painters which is why I never vote in the gallery or post on the painting boards.

Compared to some of the things I've painted over the years I'd say those are pretty darned impressive, definatly higher end table top! Nice work.

Honestly, I think some of your minis paintjobs are rated a bit higher then I would rate them. But I wouldnt say you suck at all. You know alot about HOW to paint, which is always helpful. I think your at the very least, right between new painter and golden demon, which to me, is very good.

Thats perfectly fine and a fair thing to say , i mean it.
Considering i only spend around half of the time spent per figure then average painters , i certainly cant be asking for too much!

Nice stuff! I'm going to take a closer look at the miniatures and ask some questions about your techniques. There's definitely some style in there I'd like to emulate (especially the detailing technique on the vampire; well done!).

As for the comment you received earlier, just take a deep breath and move on. The person probably didn't mean for it to come off quite like (s)he did, and you can come off with the satisfaction of knowing that they made an uninformed and poorly phrased comment. As it is said in Dinotopia, "Breath deep; speak peace."

Don't sweat the haters. I know that I'm nowhere near as good as most of the guys who show off their models on the internet. Then again, most of the people who actually have the balls to post up pics of their stuff are pretty phenomenal. I go to tournaments. I go to game stores. I've spent years witnessing the horrors of what the average joe tries to pass of as a "painted army". I would put you in the same category that I'm in. You're well above average but you don't care enough and don't have the patience to become amazing. Once the guys who charge $100 per fig that they spend 20 hours painting realize that you're charging a fraction of that, finishing your models in an even smaller fraction of the time and netting twice as much as they are then they're going to poo poo your work every chance they get.

Your skills are way over what I can manage....

I'd bet some money that this was meant as a sarcastic joke. Your stuff is very decent quality. You are too harsh on yourself, you paint very well.

I think your stuff is top notch. Even if I hadn't seen your stuff I don't see why you shouldn't be allowed to critique a product.

Yes i know , but when someone use that as argument to deny my opinion ( see the first post ) , its very sad for me.

Firstly, its common practice for those who never make into a particular field to be 'critics' (failed directors, failed chefs, failed authors etc).

Secondly - your post heading seemed either a) a little self deprecating given the obvious quality of your minis, or b) a little attention grabbing.

Third - please ignore the first two points because a) you clearly have not failed in any regards, they are exceptional table top quality, and b) i trust the self deprecation is simply modesty, and these minis deserve the attention anyway.

On the voting scale, I would be hiting some of these with 7-8 on the painting, which I would consider 'aspirational' quality (above my strict 5 TT quality, and below 'golden daemon spend a month on a model quality).

Please keep up the good work, and continue posting your pics.

Me: No . they look great to me, infact i love them
Person: Your opinion and praise isnt worth much if your painting sucks or if your standards are so low , demonstrate that you know how to paint.

Person: No why should i?
Me: *makes this thread.

People who usually tell those who can paint that they cannot are the ones who buy nicely painted figures off e-bay and pass them off as their own.

Your stuff is table top quality. Most of your work is dry brushing which is what people do so they can have table top quality models. There is nothing wrong with that. When people can shade their paint and make it look awesome is when it gets better than table top. Nothing on your pictures says that it's better than table top.

You are a good painter. All though some of your conversions are wierd. ie The guy on the wolf doesn't look right. The color scheme on the IG and Necron could use some work. I do like the dread, killa can and the tank though. You could improve your bases on all your models. Bases should never be an after thought. They should complement and finish your models.

I gotta disagree, if it was up to me bases would be transparent plastic.

Yes in a display model or diarama basing is an essential part, but in a tabletop game, where the models are supposed to be interacting with the terrain, intricate bases just look out of place.

Why do all these guys have a grassy patch growing at their feet in the middle of a ruined city?
Why are all these guys standing on rusty bits of metal in the middle of grassy field?
How come all their feet are covered in snow in the middle of a desert?

Bases should be neutral and unobstrusive so the game looks natural.

Or you could play on the boards to which your bases are painted to - and then that looks awesome

Why didn't you say so!

Obviously that's the ideal but until we can get everyone to agree on one type of table across the world (I vote for bitch black coal mines) bases should be unobtrusive.

I have to agree with mauleed if you go out of the way on a mini the base should be on the same level . The base is usually based on the area they would most be fighting on , it kinda tells a little story about there backround .

But I do also like the idea of clear bases that would be cool , but until we see that and its not just black I will continue to put as much work into my base as the fig .

And luna that guy was just being a D@*% , if you say look at my gallery and his response is why should I when the answer to that question is his main arguement than you should have moved on and not wasted your time on this post .
