He's rough around the feet still. I started out wanting to do a simple black with blue trim scheme... fffffffffffffffffff
That didn't happen. That scheme didn't happen at all. I just kept seeing new parts of the model that cried out for more striped things! pretty soon the backside of the model was looking like a tiki god and I'm debating on weather or not I should highlight his butt cheeks to create a butt chin. what do you think, dakka?

ZOOM REQUIRED: sorry about the pics being shoddy, camera issues

That being said, I'll still give you a 0 if you bring more than 5 eldar skimmers. Don't be that guy.
Also, strippers.

That colour scheme looks good

I'm finding it really hard to tell what's going on with this scheme. The pics are way dark and unclear.

From the first pic, it initially looks like black and blue. After looking at it for a minute though, it seems like the black might not be exactly black, but may have a REALLY dark or thin red tint. then, the second pic seems like the helmet blades have a green tint which makes me wonder if the front of the helmet has green?

I look back to pic 1 and can't confirm that at all. However, the back of the model in pic 2 certainly seems to confirm black as the base color. Plus, there's a random red stripe down the back of the helmet. That stripe is excessive and unnecessary if there's no other red on the model anywhere. Unless, of course, the red tint in pic 1 is actually there...

See? very confusing for me with these pics.

A) Black and blue are tried and true colors. They go well together. Red fits in there nicely, as does green, but either not together or not in one isolated area (helm stripe).

B) Need some better pics.

Best dark eldar scheme in only a few steps!

1) Base black
2) Drybrush with a medium grey
3) Paint helmet Darker Gold
4) Paint splinter rifle Chainmail or Mithril
5) Wash all with Badab Black
6) seal

or an alternative

1) Base DA green
2) Drybrush scorpion green
3) Wash thrakka green
4) Rifle either silver or gold and washed black
5) Seal

Good thing that this was PRECISELY what he was asking for.

Red and blue kind of clash, and reminds me of spider man

IF you are going to keep the scheme you need to increase the contrast.

Oh and for th elove og god please clip off the "Head Scythes" and trim the excessive shoulder pads. This alone will make it look 10 X better.

Lol, I need a better camera! It's warlock purple and enchanted blue, with some hawk turquoise thrown into the stripe pattern. the body suit is drybrushed warlock purple. I'll try for better pics later

OK let me try to be more helpful. Why not do the whole DE in blue, then make a thin wash with the warlock purple. This should free up the helmet for the full lock purple treatment and still tie it together. I'd probably lose the turquoise in favor of doing the armor plates (spikes and gun possibly?) in whatever silver you like washed with a black.

I don't know how this will turn out so just pull the pin and duck

Well I don't know what you have for a camera, but even a cheepy can produce quality pictures with the right set up. (mine can)

If you really want some acute painting advice I think you need to set up a quick light box.

Collect all the fluorescent or 'white' light bulbs you have access to. Take a careboard box and rip on of the long sides off said box. Either Spray paint the box white/light blue or throw a sheet over it of the same color.

Now aim your lamps indirectly at the mini, bouncing the light off your colored surface, or mask the light with a thin white sheet.

Then get a stool or anything of a height that will allow you to make an improvised tri pod.

make sure you stand a little back, and zoom in, and turn your macro setting ON.

If your camera has settings look for one that shoots in low light or that reduces blurrieness.

Oh, and photoshop is a god-send.

Good luck.

While I am old enough to possibly need supplements, being a smartass comes naturally. In all seriousness, the OP specifically asked if his paint scheme was good or not. By offering him two alternate paint schemes and no feedback, your reply was in no way relevant. So sure, given the opportunity, I'll be a smartass everytime. Who knows? Maybe people will start actually reading people's posts on the internet? Maybe American Idol will be canceled, too. Maybe kittens will start pooping good Star Wars sequels. Maybe even Female Space Marines will exist and scratch-built 40k Warlord Titans will stop being 36+ inches tall.... who knows?

The Painting Forums are NOT the place for personal attacks of any kind.

Of course, nowhere on Dakka is really that kind of place.

But the painting forums in particular are definitely NOT that place.

I agree with the dark, dark eldar, arnt really my thing. Personally I like the brighter, more easily seen Dark Eldar. Your scheme, to me, seems not only dark, but a bit WHOA lots of different stuff going on.
BUT! That doesnt really mean anything. If YOU like the way it looks, then thats fine. Hell I love the way I paint my Orks. To me, its the way all Orks should look. But I also get alot of comments that tell me, Orks shouldnt have rust on them at all, and all the metal should look like SM and IG take care of said weapons. Thats the way the world turns man. If you dig your scheme, awesome

Wow. Just... Wow. I still plan to post some good pics with a decent camera on here a.s.a.p. but I suddenly feel that I need to speak my peace on this.

There seem to be some old neckbeards out there who are highly resiliant to change. I played rouge trader edition thanks to a photocopy book that my uncle Zichella was kind enough to give me. I played with cardboard discs with crappily drawn orks and marines on them. I played 3rd ed orks, awesome, sucky horrible orks. I finally got the money togeather to fund a decent army about a year ago and took up the cause of the, at the time "horrible" IG and made them work. Sure, the new codex took everything good about their last incarnation away and pissed on them but I have Vraks III to fix that. But, alas, I digress.

I posted a grey knight a few weeks ago (he's in my gallery) and was astounded by the amount of "Gray Knights should be gray" attitude I got for it. Hell, I was shocked that someone even said it. And now people are saying things like,

"dark eldar should be bright" or "dark" or whatever. WTF?!

"clip off those hideous head spikes."
Can you even begin to appreciate the history of this game, or, are you a prick?

"Is that spider-man?"
Okay, I admit it. Upon looking at these pics I see where you got that. My friends now want me to make spider man themed warriors and I am going to. I have warriors to spare to this atrocity.

...sorry to rant here, but, it IS the interweb!

Because a paint-job isn't what GW presents people get upset and hate it? WTF? WTF WTF WTF?! Screw GW paintjobs. Their painters rarely capture something original or even worth looking at anyways.

SsevenN: that pic is HIGHLY inspriational, and very close to what I was thinking for my army. Thank you very much! I will build the light box tomorrow if I have time before my IG vs. IG apoc game... if not, before saturday night. These pics are bad, and yes, I feel bad for posting them.

I might have to look at redoing my 3000+ pt. army. Certianly not red but maybe a lich purple or midnight blue.

Good luck to a fellow soul eater.
