Warhammer 40,000

Outdoor Summer Charity Tournament
August 8, 2009

First Things First

Alright, first thing’s first. This tournament is DIFFERENT! Rest assured that we’ve taken a lot of time to think about all of the things that can potentially go wrong with something “different” like this. If you really don’t like the way it sounds, just don’t sign up!

- Break the mold of the typical tournament
- Join us outdoors at a lovely picnic area in Springfield, VA, near the Springfield Plaza Games Workshop
- Enjoy freshly grilled burgers and dogs between your games
- Get some fresh air instead of being trapped indoors with 31 sweaty gamers all day
- You’ll be able to collect pledges of donations / game, or flat donations, from friends and relatives – finally the opportunity to tell them you’re giving back with this dorky fun hobby of ours

How to Sign Up

To reserve a spot for the tournament, contact ...
Mike Brandt (mvbrandt@gmail.com)

Notes:
We are taking pre-registration now by e-mailing mvbrandt@gmail.com

As soon as we fill a certain % of spots for the tournament, we'll begin taking paypal registration payments for the tournament - this payment of $15 will cover registration, participation in all side competitions, a burger or hot dog, a couple of bottles of soda or water over the course of the day, and a bag of chips

We will be sending a pledge/donation form out to each registered participant

Each participant will have the option of choosing their donations/pledges to one of three charitable foundations benefitting Catholic Relief Services, Breast Cancer, or Kidney research.

Scoring system cliff's notes - Detailed information and rules will be available soon, but we assess primary value to win or loss, and break "draws" with the optional Victory Points rule from the back of the GW rulebook. Victory Points and Killpoints MODIFY your overall rating (primarily based on win / loss) in equal parts, and so are recorded and meaningful for all missions, even objective-based ones. For purposes of best general, the scoring stops there. For purposes of overall, paint score and sportsmanship score also factor in to the same level as victory points and killpoints.

Lee District Park, Springfield, VA, Picnic Area #2

Some of the Awards We'll be Presenting:

- Best Overall (General + Sportsmanship + Painting)
- Best General (Win/Loss + VP + KP)
- Best General by Round (Best overall Generalship score for each round)
- Best Army (Best overall army theme, painting, converting)
- Best Painted (Best individual model)
- Best Converted (Best individual model)
- Best Sportsmanship (Overall highest sportsmanship rating)

Thats awesome and probably one of the best ideas I have read.

Also, my local FLGS did something similar with a foood drive all last month which was kind of cool.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

Wow... I'm definitely going to consider this! (I guess I'll have to consider fast, since there's only 32 spots available!)

Thanks for posting the info

Couple of people who sent me PM's with interest but not commitment - bumping for their sake.

We're down to about 5-6 reliably available spots (maybe more by the day of, given sometimes people drop out of tourneys on short notice)

Couple of spots left, week away and they're filling up.

Any dakkas who were interested but didn't know their schedules yet, it's 8 days away!
