Ok, as i (and the rest of the UK) gets all excited over Planetstrike, i decided to make an army list for Necrons. In case you don't know the FOC, here it is basically:

Attackers

HQ: 1 compulsory, 2 optional
Elites: 6 optional
Troops: 6 optional
Fast Attack: 6 optional
Heavy Support: 3 optional.

Defenders

HQ: 1 compulsory, 2 optional
Elites: 3 optional
Troops: 2 compulsory, 6 optional
Fast Attack: 3 optional
Heavy Support: 6 optional.

Ok, now onto the attacking list:

HQ:

Edit: monoliths can now hold objectives(in PS). Seems like as an attacker running 3 of them and DSing them next to an objective, then Nuking the objective w/ Particle Whip and sitting on it the rest of the game would be a smart play.

double edit: Why the Veil on the destroyer Lord? I would attach the Lord to some wraiths and drop the veil. Maybe buy a 2nd lord w/veil to pull around shooty squads....But you're going to want the Destroyer Lord Mobile and in CC(backed up by good CC units), since he doesn't have a gun......

Ah, but my Lord DOES have a gun!! The Warscythe has a built-in gauss blaster. And the Lord Is going with the Wraiths...

I suppose the only reasons for the Veil are to pull it out of a CC not going so well, and because i've never used it before .


The only flaw with the Mono idea is what if the objective was still standing? AV 14 is tough to crack, even with a Particle Whip...

Pariahs have a warscythe with built in gauss blaster, your lord doesn't get that.


Particle Whip is STR 9 AP 1 Ord. (under the templates center)

So you would roll two dice for penetration, pick the highest, then add +1 to the result. It doesn't get much better than that.

But regardless, you wouldn't even have to bust the bunkers necessarily, remeber, contested objectives go to the attacker, and all you need is to be base to base with the objective. Destroying them would help because then you could end your movement on the exploded bunker, making it impossible for the enemy to even attempt to contest.

They aren't. It's AP 3, only the model under the hole is hit with an AP 1 shot.

Read the 'warscythe' entry in the codex right before the wargear items. There is no mention of a built in gauss blaster under its description. The only notation of it having one is under Pariahs where it says 'Warscythe with built in gauss blaster'. So only pariahs would have a warscythe with a built in gauss blaster.

Yeah I edited the PW, AP 1 over the center, considering you're hitting a bunker, it's got a good chance of landing fully over the building.

It's been a while since I've come across Necron, but I seem to remember someone showing me that this had been covered in an FAQ or errata.

Yeah, for the Warscythe: Firstly, it does NOT get a Gauss Blaster (that's only the Pariah's modified warscythes) and also, according to the FAQ, the Lord even loses the Staff of Light attacks, so you're left with no shooting from the lord with a Warscythe (but that scythe is pretty damn good)

The 'Scythe is fantastic. But the lord needs support to use it effectivey. The destoryer body pays for its self in CC. The +1 toughness with the 12" charge become very potent when combined with additional CC support, at the moment, that means Wraiths.

There wan't any need to FAQ the Warscythe. Under its description it lists exactly what it does, ignore armor saves, invulnerable saves, and add + 1 D6 to vehicle armor penetration.

Under the Pariahs wargear it says they have a warscythe with a built in gauss blaster.

I'm puzzled by this- 12" charge? Do you mean a 12" movement, then 6" charge? Or did I miss something about jetbike rules? I'm fairly new to 5th edition, so what's going on here? Have jetbikes gained a 12" move, then 12" charge?

No, they haven't gained a 12" charge. He probably means movement.


As for everyone else, maybe i don't get a Gauss Blaster. But he'll still carve up anything with his bodyguard and 'scythe.

I played a game of planetsrike and it was fun. EVERYTHING can ds so that helps and things with the deep strike rule can assault when they come in! I suggest more destroyers or tank busting and to grab stuff. Objectives can be captured by anyone so speed around capture those objectives, other then that nice list.

Do you think i could get a gauss blaster if i payed an extra 5 pts? seems reasonable to me (but my idea of 'fair' is rather misconcepted...).

And cRaZy, everything in my army has the potential to take out a LR fairly easily. But i do confess, i was going to take 2 heavy Destroyers instead of the 11 warriors, but i seemed to be lacking a bit in the troops section... and you can't say no to the best infantry troops choice (excluding Grey Knights) in the game.

I personally wouldn't let you add a gauss blaster as the Warscyth on ma Destroyer bodied lord is mean enough on its own. One thing you may consider is using a monolith and dropping it right in close then any forces in reserve can come out later to contest or hold or you could try for a last minute teleport up to an objective for a quick win.

The only thing about monoliths is that when i played with one, it was blown up in the enemt's first turn. This means you've just lost 235 pts without doing anything significant.
