So, I have 30pts to dicker with. I was thinking about putting Carapace or Demo on one of my Vet Squads or adding a single Bodyguard to each HQ as a wound sink, upping the survivability of it. I put the HQs in Chimeras and will keep them back, seeing as how they fetch a large number of points in 'Ard Boyz (can't just throw them away!). The Stormies are now dedicated to killing whatever comes out of the tanks blown up by my Air-mobile Veterans.

Thoughts?

I'm guessing you are planning to either outflank or deepstrike the valks thus the astropaths? With the 30 points I think the body guys could be a good idea with points you're putting into those squads. You kinda lack any long distance 13-14 AT punch. You will have a few turns of LR and other tanks walking over you til your meltas get close enough. A squad of medusas or even Manticores might add a lot of punch and could replace 2 of the valks. I used a vendetta today and I was rather disappointed the 3 las are ok but it hurts not having really impressive penetration power. They are really only good for popping transports and I dunno if you've used them yet but it was far larger than I expected once it was on the board. Forget getting any cover.

I am not worried about cover. They are almost a distraction unit so my Chimeras get hit less often. I have a pair of Vet Squads that act as my long-range anti-tank, because I can rapid-insert them right next to enemy tanks without much worry about losing the unit. I am thinking I may go for four Vendettas, but I am loathe to give up my anti-horde power. Its a tough call.

Also, yes, Outflanking is the goal. I am going to hold everything in reserve, generally, to deny turns of shooting to the opponent (ideally). Coming in on a 2+ means I won't need to worry about piecemeal. The mission that is modified Spearhead will be a breeze that way, since I come in on the table edge and can zip in on top of that objective.

If you wanted some mobile cover you could buy dedicated chimeras for the stormtroopers and just use them as extra cover and they can pick up a squad if their chimera gets popped. Use the empty chimeras to shoot and cover the ends of your flaks and guard and rear or side shots they can get in between. And they are a lot cheaper than valks.

Cheaper, but really ineffective by comparison.

You have many many heavy flamers & multi-lasers..Dont discount that for anti-horde work. More Lascannons in this list wouldnt go amiss.

Those melta-valkyrie vets are not long range AT. The valkyrie can flat-out move 24", dropping a vet squad from any point along that 24" line. They then have a 6" effective melta range (which can easily be ruined with bad scatter drift). The total range of that whole shooting thing is 30". This is not long range. Its medium range.

48-70"+ is long range.

Two officers of the fleet is a bad idea. Numbers are multivariable, but the bottom line is: 2 means your opponent gets 16% more of his reserves forced in during the 5th round. This is probably bad news for you as it will allow him to concentrate on contesting objectives/mobbing any of your units that are strung out. Recco going down to just 1 MoF.

Yeah, i just use one and that is mainly to up the chance he'll come in on the wrong spot for outflanking. 2 actually hurts more than it helps in my opinion.

Hmm. Didn't think about that one. Dropping one leaves me room for ...Hmm. Bodyguards? With the extra 30 I already had, I could do up both air-mobile Vet squads with Demolitions, too. Thoughts?
