I have yet to find a nice decent white primer. Its either to rough or it doesn't give my models a good coat.
What white primers do you guys use...any feedback would be great!

Perhaps try an auto primer of some kind.I use white spray paint, and am fairly happy with the results I get with that.

whats an "auto primer" is that the brand...if it isn't I would really really like the name of the brand you use.
Thanks for the feedback!

Auto primer is what you would buy from DIY store for respraying your car or other bits of bare metal.

Plastikote is a good make. They do all kinds of primers and paints for different materials.

I have the Armory White Primer, which I bought from the War Store. However, I haven't used it!! Is it any good, or is it one of the ones you've tried and didn't like?

GW sucks. It's so gritty that all detail is lost when you use it. Armory is almost as bad. The best that I've found is the cheapo Wal-Mart brand. It applies a nice, even, thin coat that takes paint well.

I just got a wal-mart brand called Krylon and it did some of the models okay but most got that rough gritty surface on them...luckily I was priming my TK dead skeleton army so it didn't look that bad on them.

-RiTides Nids, I haven't used that brand but according to artyboy it sucks so ill take his word for it.

Thanks for the feed back guys! Ill try the auto primer out.

Krylon is good enough. Make sure you get something not glossy. Most of the cans will say if it's a gloss or matte finish...I got the Krylon Fusion for Plastics and it give excellent coveage but it goes on too smooth or glossy.

Ow cause I got the flat coat and it wasn't that good...Thanks though I will definitely look for the fusion.

Im with artyboy. The CHEAP walmart stuff works well. Im talking cheap, not Krylon or anything like that. Infact, me personally, I just started using .97 cent cans of black primer from home depot. It lays out great, and leaves a really nice finish on my minis.

I've liked the results from Tamiya's stuff. The spray nozzle is very nice, and the primer goes on pretty smooth.

But, I don't give a crap about price, so I didn't check what it costs. I'm sure a lot more than other options.

I've had good luck with krylon flat white. A few models came out fuzzy but thats user error, usualy spraying from too far away that the paint dries in the air.

I use all armory primer. Spraying close and fast passes is the trick with that. Technique is different depending on climate. Grey_Death did a tutorial on here or The Painting Corps Blog about how to properly prime a miniature and also a section about changing the spray tips that come with the cans to high performance ones. Good stuff there. If your primer is going on too rough you are spraying too far. If the primer is messing up detail you're too close or adding way too many coats. Remember you don't have to drench the model. Usually a simple burst does the job.

I use Krylon primer most of the time. Make sure it says "primer" on the front with cap indicating color. Flat paint is not the same as primer and if you try it on resin it wont stay in place. A friend of mine insists on using flat spray "paint" on bare resin and not actual primer and he always has flaking problems.

Krylon or Rust-o-leum primers can also be wet or dry sanded if you accidently make it run (which it shouldnt unless you try to prime from an inch away).

IME, Krylon is better than any "hobby" primer made.
