Okay, I've been crunching numbers for a while, and I'm trying to decide what would be the most efficent use of the remaining points I have left for this Guard list.
I have already:-

CCS, with 4 meltaguns, Chimera-145 pnts

Psyker Battle Squad, with 8 Psykers, chimera-155 pnts

Veteran Squad with 3 plasma guns, autocannon, chimera-180 pnts

Veteran Squad with 3 plasma guns, autocannon, chimera-180 pnts

Veteran Squad with Hvy Flamer, 2 flamers-100 pnts(meant to drop from a vendetta)

3 Vendettas-390 Pnts

This leaves me with 350 points. Now from the options below, what would you take in what combination to maximise the efficency of this list? You can take multiples of any unit.

-Griffons
-Hydras
-Colossus
-Veteran Squad w/Hvy flamer, 2 flamers
-leman russ(of whatever variant you deem appropriate)

My only thoughts are that you do not have any major AT in your list with range. With all that AV12 your going to find one range army that will bring the pain quick and with out any way to return it.

Drop one vendetta. Get another melta-mechCSS combo. I presume those valkyrie are in seperate Fast Attack FOC slots? Being able to split those lascannons shots (and deep-striking flamer power) will be crucial.

With the remaining 335pts, get one leman russ tank & one medusa/manticore (depending on taste -get ECC if its the meduas). What should the leman russ do (you have lots of str6/7 firepower, you have a fair amount of AP2 weaponary & a good amount of meltaguns aswell as two sets of three TL-lascannons.

So i'd suggest a standard Leman russ battle tank, cant go wrong with some AP3 pie @ long range.

Should leave you with aboout 25-35pts to spare. This can go on medusa/manticore camo netting/LRBT sponsons/hull lascannon/some form of useful regimental advisor.

Why on earth should I exchange a 130 point tank capable of transporting men with three twin linked lascannons, for a short ranged meltagun unit that costs 15 points more?? Surely you don't mean to tell me that that unit is superior at tank busting than the Vendetta?

The CCS is a proven vehicle killing unit, but it has to get in close, and lacks the same tactical flexibility the vendetta has.

Please make your choice on what you would advise me to take from the selection I gave. The list so far is what is tried and tested. What you are suggesting would have a drastic effect on the play style of the army, and make it function differently, which is not a change I am looking for.

Well if you want to stick with the existing format I would suggest giving the flamer vet demolitions for sure. That template gives them increased killing power vs hordes or MEQ but more importantly it gives the entire squad meltabombs making it a solid AV-14 vehicle killer, and its even reasonably effective against moving land raiders and walkers.

Personally Im a much bigger fan of 2x melta, 1x HF, Demo as it is actually much better against MEQ while still almost as lethal vs hordes. You can also play the fun game of "fry the infantry standing in front of my melta target". which happens more often than you would think.

Then of your choices I would go with two griffons or one colossus and two hydras, leaving you still with 20 points.

alternatively you could solve most of your shortcommings ( MEQ, TEQ) killing with a pair of Demolishers with HHF.

I like the idea of the demolitions/2 meltaguns, and I'll definitely take that on board.
What did you mean by HHF with reference to the Demolishers?

Do you think it would be effective instead to take one colussus and two griffons/one griffon and one hydra? As apparantly the Colussus can use the Griffons reroll to target with.
