Hi this is my first post and I'd just like some basic ideas on how I should improve my skaven army list so far.

Plauge Priest: Flail, Bands of power, Warpstone Amulet : 124pts
Warplock Engineer: All warpy things listed on options besides pistol, storm Daemon : 105pts

20 Clanrats: Ratling gun and full command : 185pts
20 Clanrats: Ratling gun and full command : 185pts
30 Slaves : 60pts

25 Plauge Monks: Additional hand weapons, Full Command, Banner of Burning Hatred : 250pts

5 Plauge Censor Bearers : 85pts

Total : 999pts

I'm thinking of getting rid of the musician and champion on the clanrat units so I can afford better stuff like more slaves

So tell me what you think and how I should improve it please

units of 25 clanrats are better, units of 20 slaves are more tactically viable, censor bearers good but get shot down easily,i would use gutter runner tunneling teams. A BSB is pretty much mandatory.

Never really thought about having 25 clanrats, are they any significantly better?

Definately. It means you don't take a single casualty from shooting and lose some of your rank bonus.

Ah right thanks, should I get rid of the champions and musicians in the clanrat units though?

If you really need the points, I would get rid of the champ before the musician. The mus will help you win combats (or keep you from losing them) and boost your chances of rallying during any one of several inevitable flee scenarios.

I agree with the comments about unit size, etc. Get the clanrats to 25 (drop champs for points), drop the slaves to 20, and if you need more points, reconsider the amulet on the priest. If it's the 4+ ward that can kill you after the game (I forget the name exactly, lots of warpstone stuff in the book ), I can say from experience that my priest general in small games rarely got to roll that ward (usually ran away when his unit was pummeled), but was in fact killed by it after 1 tournament game, which tipped a minor win to a minor loss.

Ok thanks everyone for the helpful advice, I'll definitely reconsider a warpstone amulet after it killed my priest making the minor victory a draw and not even being attacked throughout the course of the game. I'm also wondering if warpfire throwers are any good, because I just have a feeling that they're quite likely to overshoot.

Also please tell me what I should do to this list

Plauge priest With Flail and bands of power // Total 89
Warlock Engineer With all warpy stuff besides pistol and Storm Daemon // Total 110

25 Clanrats With banner and ratling gun // Total 195
25 Clanrats With banner and ratling gun // Total 195
20 Slaves // Total 40

25 Plauge Monks With full command additional weapon and Banner of Burning Hatred // Total 250

7 Plauge Censors // Total 119

Grand Total // 998

I agree with Salvage on the Warpstone Amulet on the general. I run the exact Plague priest you created with a unit of 29 plague monks in larger (2250 or 2500) point games, smaller units in smaller games, but he is never the general. And no Skaven ranked unit ever under 25 models. Losing one guy dropping your leadership by 1 is begging the warhammer gods to make you fail your leadership by 1.

Usually, the priest dies at some point before I have to roll that 1 at the end of the game. But that block plays an important roll in my army as a hammer that my opponent has to watch. And a unit of naked night runners handles those pesky redirect units.

Plus, thats a huge investment at 1k points in Censers. It would be interesting to see if they can kill that kind of point value in small games, plus how often they drop each other.

Well I played a game last Sunday and I had a unit of 5 Plauge Censor bearers and they managed to take down a unit of 20 Empire Swordsman (Although I think he may have lost 5 or so from magic) single-handedly so they can take down quite a few stuff, although I could've just had some amazing amounts of luck
