Subject: Question regarding Space Marine Whilrwind

Ultramarine Scout with Sniper Rifle

I recently had a discussion with a friend of mine about the usefulness of the Space marine whirlwind in battles and varying scenarios, where we came upon the issue of does the whirlwind have a limited ammo capacity for its different missile types? or is it considered infinite like its other missile launcher cousins? its been a while since I've run a Whirlwind, and i dont currently have a codex onhand as i dont want to dig it out haha. anyone able to clear this up for me?

Glancing at the codex, I don't see any mention of limited ammo. You might be okay to play it as infinite. I'd play it as infinite. I'd let my cat play it as infinite.

I don't have the codex right here either, but I read in it just yesterday and, as a marine player, I am very sure that the ammo is unlimited. The line reads something like "each turn, the whirlwind can choose between...", so there's nothing about limitations for special ammo or so.
Of course, would be good if someone could quote that correctly, so this is backed up or proven wrong.

I'm pretty sure that whirlwinds have never had limited ammo.
You may be thinking of the cyclone missile launcher (on terminators) which used to have a limited number of shots but you could choose how many to fire in a turn which determined the size of blast. That's 2nd ed. rules though.

i think it is unlimited, due to the lenght of a game. you probably only fire lesser 10 missiles, so it should have enough storage.

please forgive my spelling, i am still learning English. |

Whirlwinds do not have limited ammunition. I generally assume that there are extra missiles stored in the space normally used for troop transportation, and that the crew reloads if necessary.

It is not limited however the IG Manticore is limited which has the sameish role as the whirlwind (rocket launching arty) which may have led to the confusion. And IMHO they are quite useful against guard gaunts orcs n tau possibly more, but these are the only races ive personally used them on.
