The darkest spot between galaxies, leading my armada.

My AP interpretation is that if the AP is ,for example, 5, and the save of the target is 3, then the target can only roll for 3's or 4's. Am I wrong?

Yes.

You get your armor save unless the AP is equal to your save... EX: AP 3 cancels 3+ save, but has no effect on 2+ save.

Only Strength affects the wounding. AP determines whether step 3 (Hitting -> Wounding -> Armour Save) is used or not.

Just think of it like this: If I have a gun designed to pierce Space Marine armour (AP 3), it would mean that when I shot and hit him (and wounded in gameplay terms), his armour would just be tissue paper and would not factor in. Therefore the armour save is not taken, and he takes a wound.

If someones Armour save is 3+, against AP -, AP 6,5,4 he need to roll a 3 or more for his save. If the Ap is 3,2 or 1, he gets No save at all.

To add to dracos...

If you get a save, you get your armor value and above. In your example you DO get to roll a save (Because AP5 doesn't negate armor value 3). You get to roll a 3-6 and possibly save the wound.

Now if your armor value is equal or greater, you do not get to roll a save.

Please note - terms like 'always/never' are carried with the basic understanding that there are exceptions to the rule, and therefore are used to mean generally...

Yep. In 40k, your save is nearly always unmodified by attacks. You either recieve it or you don't.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

I wish GW were thinking like you did when they wrote the book, unfortunately they were thinking in black and white with absolutely no room for grey:

they did in the early editions ... personally i found it to be way too much work ... new system though not perfect works much better and gives a faster game.

If you think you're saves are modified in40k, then you've been playing Fantasy too much.

Or haven't played 40k since the very early 90s (many people did stop when they saw the 'oversimplification' of 40k (to their eyes).)

Some of them have since returned to the fold.

THE HORUS HERESY: Emprah: Hours, go reconquer the galaxy so there can be a new golden age. Horus: But I should be Emprah, bawwwwww! Emprah: Magnus, stop it with the sorcery. Magnus: But I know what's best, bawwwwww! Emprah: Horus, tell Russ to bring Magnus to me because I said so. Horus: Emprah wants you to kill Magnus because he said so. Russ: Fine. Emprah's always right. Plus Ole Red has already been denounced as a traitor and I never liked him anyway. Russ: You're about to die, cyclops! Magnus: O noes! Tzeentch, I choose you! Bawwwww! Russ: Ah well. Now to go kill Horus. Russ: Rowboat, how have you not been doing anything? Guilliman: . . . I've been writing a book. Russ: Sigh. Let's go. Guilliman: And I fought the Word Bearers! Horus: Oh shi--Spess Puppies a'comin? Abbadon: And the Ultramarines, sir. Horus: Who? Anyway, this looks bad. *enter Sanguinis* What are you doing here? Come to join me? Sanguinius: *throws self on Horus's power claws* Alas, I am undone! When you play Castlevania, remember me! *enter Emprah* Emprah: Horus! So my favorite son killed my favorite daughter! Horus: What about the Lion? Emprah: Never liked her. Horus: No one does. Now prepare to die! *mortally wounds Emprah*Emprah: Au contraire, you dick. *kills Horus* Dorn: Okay, now I just plug this into this and . . . okay, it works! Emprah? Hellooooo? Jonson: I did nothing! Guilliman: I did more nothing that you! Jonson: Nuh-uh. I was the most worthless! Guilliman: Have you read my book? Dorn: No one likes that book. Khan: C'mon guys. It's not that bad. Dorn: I guess not. Russ: You all suck. Ima go bring the Emprah back to life.

Me too! Except I played 2nd ed Spess Wholves when I was a wee lad, loved it, played 3rd, left it, Skipped 4th and came back to 5th, and I didn't have to buy a new Space Wolf Codex

Yep, Iv'e been playing IG since 2nd, but I stuck through all the different editions.
And soon laddie Gwar, soon, you will have a new tome of knowledge for your precious puppies...........

Actually, I've been holding off on a Marine army for a couple of years waiting for a new SW codex. After all, gotta give my Guard a break every 2 or 3 years and play something else for a little while. Already accumulating SW bits to use on all my old beekiez.

Now ya see, I am the opposite, I have been wanting to do guard for a while now. Cadian 8th (because I am a Fanboi) and because it goes with the Fluff of my SPESS WHOLVES

Then GW had to ruin them (IG) ;(

I started buying things in 2nd ed but ran out of money .... I still have 1 or 2 rainbow marines left.

Can't wait till the space wolves get their new codex might even resurrect the rainbow marines.

Uh, I was born in the early nineties so... yeah. Plus, I had to take my friends' word for it because he's the one who told me the AP rule worked that way. I just had no access to a rulebook, so let's not say I'm ignorant of the rules, okay? I've got the rulebook now.
