And it will arrive the next day on PSN with a September release for PC.

Anyone getting this?

I'm stoked - even if it's only initially three maps and three classes for a suspect price point ($15USD or 1200 MS Space Bucks on XBLA.)

BF1942 is still the pinnacle of the series for me. Seeing the old maps using the new BF: BC engine makes me giddy. I'm also glad they finally threw the M1 Garand in to the game. No more of everyone running around with BARs.

1943 on XBLA? Are you sure you're not talking about Battlefield Heroes? I would have thought 1943 would be too big for an XBLA distribution... or maybe I'm just not that up to date with the size of games available on XBLA...

You are indeed correct sir that you don't know what you are talking about!

MS lifted the cap on size of XBLA titles quite some time ago (or at least increased it significantly.)

BF1943 will only include 4 maps (3 initially, the 4th "bonus" map [coral sea] will become unlocked once the respective online communities for BF1943 reach 43 million kills.) and will only have 3 classes.

If you've played 1942 the maps are Guadal Canal, Iwo Jima, and Wake Island. All classes, with Guadal Canal perhaps being my favorite of the bunch.

Looks like EA really dropped the ball on this one guys.

They didn't have enough servers up, so there were annoyingly long wait [search] times to get in a game, and sometimes you wouldn't be able to get in a game at all [or even connect to EA's system to be able to search!]

It wasn't even up for download on the XBLA Marketplace for the better part of the day. I think they yanked it pretty quickly once they realized what was going on.

It took me awhile to download it too. I guess MS servers were being stressed

You could get around downloading it from the XBLA marketplace by going Xbox.com, and viewing the 360 marketplace there. You can log in with your Live account and then pay for and queue up titles for download on you Xbox [the next time you log in to live the D/L will start automatically) - thats how I had to get the game.

Anyway.

I've been having a blast with this though, once i got to play. Just makes me wish this had been a full release with more maps. I await the inevitable DLC though.

Only gripe so far: can't customize the controls much, just the presets. But i've been able to find what I wanted there.

Also was interesting how they changed up Iwo Jima from 1942. Still pretty much the same generally, but feels smaller and less open.

I'm not sure on what specifically they've changed on Guadalcanal but it's still the same giant map with super tall mountains it's always been.

I'm really liking the destructible terrain.

It seems like it works well. Things don't get completely blown up too easily, but by the end of the match if areas have been completely hammered buildings will start to become leveled flat.

Been playing it most of the day and...I'm underwhelmed. I want to like it, and I just can't like it as much as I liked BF1942.

Care to elaborate on this?

The only thing i'm not liking is only three maps (lets face it, Coral Sea doesn't count...and it's not even available yet)

This feels more action oriented, with shorter match times (but still a decent length.)

I don't mind how they've changed up the kits either. I am absolutely in love with the semi-auto rifle combat in this game.

I can't seem to get a handle on the SMG though.

Well, Wake Island is the best example I can give you.

The original Wake Island was a blast. Being able to sink the carriers as the Marines, all the defensive machine gun positions and AA guns that could be traversed fully to the ground to shred Japanese tanks were great.

But here, there's no MG positions, the AA guns can't even hit the planes unless the pilot is terrible and the cycling rate on them seems to be far lower than it originally was.

It just feels, to me personally, that something was lost in converting it.
The new kits and everything are great, yeah. But it seems to me at least, that they tried too hard to make it Bad Company 1943 rather than the actual Battlefield experience it was.

How is the survivability of the infantryman? Still as flimsy?

That's a shame. I was looking forward to this too..

Oh, infantry are quite survivable.
It was actually harder for me to take down a Japanese infantryman than a tank as a sniper.

Survivability is good on all classes.

You don't have a health bar anymore, but rather a regenerating health system similar to Call of Duty and Gears of War.

That said, i'm wholly enjoying this.

It still feels like an action packed battlefield too me.

One thing I really like though is the fact that you can use a semi-auto rifle and actually survive.

The only thing that bugged me in the original BF1942 was that the soldier class had a BAR/STG44/Type 99.

That was silly.

Eh, wasn't really silly considering that they tried to balance it out.

You couldn't very well have Enfields duking it out against STG44s without having the scrubs stacking the German team

Enfields vs K98s sounds like pretty fun to me.

The only problem then is the M1 Garand.

Or the G43 or the Russian equivalent

Well to be fair the Mosin Nagant was the standard issues rifle I believe.

Of course the Soviets did have literal hordes of men armed with PPsH submachine guns too

My ideal WW2 video game would be an eastern front game so it'd be k98s, Mosins, MP-40s, PPsHs, and an assortment of LMGs and HMGs for each side.

Although, did anyone ever play the BF1942 mod called Battlefield 1918?

Yeah, WW1 baby. That was awesome.

SO AWESOME.
