So, we had a small debate at our local game store. During the shooting phase, I am a bit unclear about a cover save in this situation. You have a vehicle (Monolith more than likely), or a small infantry squad shooting some bolter type weapon. They are firing less than 2", through area terrain. The squad they are targeting is in the SAME area terrain. Now, does the unit you are firing upon get a cover save or not? I checked the cover save section (p21 or 22?) and there are 2 exceptions to getting cover. If you are in area terrain, you get cover. The other one says if you shoot through less than 2" of area terrain you do not get cover. Ideas?

The firer does not grant his target a cover save when firing through less than 2" of area terrain.
The target receives a cover save from being in area terrain.
If the target is infantry then they'll get their save. If the target is a vehicle (like the monolith) then it only gets a cover save if 50% obscured.

Yes, they get a save as they are in the terrain.

The unit being shot in area terrain would still get their cover save based on your example.

Thanks guys. Sometimes one rule can look as if it overules another. I will pass this info on. I know that a vehicle does not get the save. I just gave the example of a Monolith AND an infantry unit shooting just in case there was a difference.

The Monolith could get a save, if it was 50% obscured (unlikely) and in Area Terrain. It just cannot get one solely for being in Area Terrain.
