A small preamble to this game: We decided last week that Tyranids would fight Nurgle Chaos Marines in our weekly Tuesday Night games night for a few reasons. Tyson is a pretty new player and wants to play a lot with his Nurgle marines. Matt has been playing for a while and has just gone back to his Tyranids that he only ever collected 1000ish points for.

Discussions/Debate last week centred around who was the biggest badass. Tyson was convinced this Deamon Prince with the Mark of Nurgle was the man, where Matt just couldn’t decide between his Hive Tyrant, Carnifex or brood Lord. So the scene was set! Matt said he would grab a box of Genestealers from GW thru the week to bring him to 1500 points. He never got there so started at a disadvantage as he had to spend about 200 points upgrading his units to fill the 1500. Tys hadn’t finished building his Land Raider in time so we borrowed an unfinished one from a Dark Angels army that was sitting neglected on the shelf. It kinda fitted in, black undercoat and all….

Another note is that the pics were taken on my phone coz the camera batteries were flat and I’m a lazy gamer that doesn’t like running to the shops for new ones.

Nurgle Setup: Matt wins the roll and lets Tys setup, allowing him the first round of shooting. Dread sets up on flank. Squads of Plague Marines supported by Obliterators and Deamon Prince filled the centre. The Land Raider filled with Terms on right flank.

Nidz Setup: The Brood Lord with his entourage of Steelers infiltrated on the right flank. The Carnifex set his sights on the Dreadnaught and Obliterators on the right flank. The Hive Tyrant and the spearhead of the Tyranid Force deployed in the centre, guarded by his Tyrant Guard. The Gaunts are backed up by the Synaptic Warriors. The Lictor and Raveners waited, not giving away their positions. The Biovore found a nice spot in the corner.

Nurgle Turn 1: Choosing not to move, the Dreadnaught fired on the Genestealers threatening its flank. The shot scattered but managed to take out 2. The Obliterators morphed their limbs into Plasma Cannons, landing a hit but the trees provided cover, rolling 2 5’s and a six to duck the ball of Plasma. The second Obliterators ball of molten plasma went over the heads of the Xeno’s.

The land Raider opened up on the Hive Tyrant, the shot blasting branches off trees. The Heavy Bolter opened up, failing to wound.

Tyranids Turn 1: The Carnifex moved forward while the stealers moved into the trees towards the Dreadnaught. The Gaunts sprung forward getting an extra 2 inches from their Fleet of Foot, closely followed by the Warriors. The Ripper Swarms scuttled ahead of the Tyrant.

The shooting phase started with the Biovore launching a toxic mine toward the centre of the Nurgle line landing just in front of the Plague Marines. The Carnifex fired his Venom Cannon at the Dreadnaught, hitting twice, with 2 glancing hits that getting a Shaken result. The Warriors Deathspitters opened up on the Nurgle lines, falling short. The Hive Tyrants Warp Blast targeted the nearest squad of Plague Marines, missing.

Not a lot of action in the first turn, although the hit on Dread was a good one.

Nurgle Turn 2: The Dreadnaught went into Blood Rage, running at the Genestealers (with a groan from Tyson). The Plague Marines in the centre moved forward, hoping to get into rapid fire range of the gaunts. The second squad planted their feet and set their sights on the mass of gaunts. The Land Raider moved up and unloaded its spiky cargo.

The shooting phase started with the Land Raider opening up on the Carnifex, wounding the beast. The Obliterators followed suit with lascannons, wounding it twice more. The Plague marines opened up on the Gaunts, mowing down 4 of them. The second quad also joined the firestorm, but only managed to kill a single nid. The Terminators decided to set an example, opening up with Bolters and the Reaper, taking out another 4.

The Dreadnaught assaulted the Genestealers in the woods; the Broodlord landed 4 hits but only scratched the puss from the fetid armour. The Stealers went to town on his metal hide, tearing through the armour, causing an explosion that killed 3 of the stealers.

Tyranids Turn 2: The Licter revealed its position in the tin shack next the Obliterators as the stealers closed in, the Raveners failed to follow the pheromone trail. The Carnifex also moved in. The spearhead of the Tyranid force closed the gap between the two armies. The spore mine floated into open space.

The shooting phase started with a Toxic Spore mine hitting the Daemon Prince in the chest, but the toxins were no match for the pestilence that already infected it. Hive Tyrant warp blasted the Land Raider, penetrating but the demonic entity inside hardly noticed the impact. The Warriors Deathspitters caused a wound on the Plague Marines, felling one.

The stealers & Lictor assaulted the Obliterators, in a flurry of rending claws, but one still stood, the Lictor moved in from behind, impaling it and consiolidated towards its next victim. The gaunts closed with Plague Marines, as did the Warriors, taking out 3. The Hive Tyrant also assaulted the Land Raiders side armour but did not break through the thick hull.

Nurgle Turn 3: The Terminators moved toward the Hive Tyrant and the Plague marines and Prince moved toward the Stealers.

Shooting started with the Terminators targeting the monstrous Tyrant and his guard, taking out the guard and wounding the Tyrant twice. The Marines Rapid Fired into the stealers, killing all but the Brood Lord. The Land Raider lascannons wounded the Tyrant, dropping it to a single wound.

The Assult phase started with the Deamon Prince imposing himself on the battle, with Nurgles Rot killing 4 gaunts and wounding a warrior. He swung his sword at the Warriors, wiping out the unit. The gaunts put in a last ditch effort, causing 2 wounds on the Plague Marines but their ancient power armour served them well. The marines struck back, finishing off the gaunts. Consolidating, ready to accept the inevitable charge next turn. The second squad rapid fired at the Stealers, killing all but the Brood Lord.

Tyranids Turn 3: The nids are now looking low in number, but still high in power. The Carnifex moved in, as did the Broodlord and the Lictor.

The Biovore landed a mine just shy of the Plague Marine squad. The Hive Tyrants Warp Blast missed the Terminators. The Carnifex did a little better, taking down a Marine.

The Assult phase began with the Rippers and the Tyrant assaulting the Terminators, spewing Bio Plasma, missing and landing only a single blow, felling a Terminator. The Terminator Lord got 2 additional attacks from his Deamon Weapon, felling the Tyrant, performing a Coup De Grace while the beast was twitching on the ground. The Rippers look down a Terminator before a sweep of power fists dismissed the swarms.

The regular Plague Marine attacked before the Carnifex, landing a lucky wound. The Carnifex then disembowelled the Marines. The Broodlord landed 5 hits on the Marines and killed 3. The Lictor then took out another. The Plague Marines retaliations were aimed at the Broodlord, taking 2 wounds.

Nurgle Turn 4: The Terminators moved into assault range of the Lictor and Broodlord and the Prince stepped up to the Carnifex.

It didn’t get a chance to attack as the land Raider took its final wound with its Twin Linked Lascannons. The Terminators and the Prince assaulted the Broodlord.

The Prince and Broodlord hit in unison, the Broodlord wounded the Prince twice but was sliced in half by the rusted blade. The Lictor failed to land a wound on the Terminators. The Terminator Lord got an additional 4 attacks from his Deamon Weapon and slew the Lictor.

Tyranid Turn 4: Its pretty elementary from here but we moved some spore mines, one went into a Plauge Marine but didn’t have an effect.

The Raveners finally decided to make an appearance, popping up behind the Prince and assaulted, the Daemon Prince spun, taking 3 wounds from the unit. He suffered no wounds in turn.

We obv. called it there. The forces of Chaos were blessed by Nurgle today!

Hope you enjoyed the read. Sorry for the low quality pics!

I will post up the army lists tonight I spose. The Nurgle list was pretty strong but our group is dominated by Marines (Space Wolves, Dark Angels, Nurgle, Black Legion and Deamon Hunters), meaning he has alot of Melta and Plasma weapons, so putting together a flamer or 2 would prob help.

The nid list is a bit lacking as Matt used every model he had and still had to find 200pts, so a trip to GW for a box of Stealers and perhaps some Gaunts with Fleshborers is on the cards, so the rematch should be a good one.

Hey this was a cool step by step...love to see my Nids in battle

I have one question. In one statement "The Raveners finally decided to make an appearance, popping up behind the Prince and assaulted, the Daemon Prince spun, taking 3 wounds from the unit. He suffered no wounds in turn. " I thought the if you deepstrike (Which is what I think happened here as the popped up) I thought you couldn't assault that turn. Am i misatken on this rule?

No you can't assault after deep striking. Still, well painted Nids and looked like a fun game.

One of the few things Lictors have going for them, sadly. Too little punch on a paper-frail body for too many points.

95% of teens would go into a panic attack if the jonas brothers were about to jump off the empire state building, copy and paste this if you are the 5% who would pull up a lawn chair & grab some popcorn and yell JUMP!!!!!
Inquiring minds want to know: Do cos-players carry a costume version of the emergency roadside kit we all have in our cars?

Very exciting battle! In the beggining I was thinking that the nids would win but then I realised that the CSM had it all along xD

EDIT: I'm really looking forward to the nurgle army list being posted, I'm going to be building one of those!
