This has probably been asked before, but does a Warrior brood have to be selected as an HQ choice in order to be a Synapse brood and if so why when you have Zoanthropes with the option of synapse while still being classified as Heavy Support?

See that's what I thought, but I had people telling me that you have to take them as an HQ choice in order for that to take effect (which didn't make much since to me at all beings that it is stated clearly in the codex that they are a synapse creature). I posted this in order to verify that my theory was either correct or incorrect in thinking that you can take them as an elite choice while still retaining there synapse ability.

Just show the naysayers the unit entry. It says they're Synapse, not Synapse-only-if-HQ. Problem solved.

Remember too, you can take warriors as an Elite OR HQ slot depending on what else you're running. If you want 2 tyrants, 1 tyrant/1broodlord + warriors, take them as elites! The flexibility has done wonders for me at times when I'm putting in lictors & elite carnifexes and things like that.

They can even be Fast Attack when winged :3

Good point! Give them wings, take off the extended carapace, and all of a sudden you could potentially take 8 units of 9 warriors for a total of 72 2 wound models!

I have a dakka tyrant and a broodlord with feeders (and I might add that a broodlord with feeder tendrils and a genestealer retinue kicks ass). So I would take my warriors as an Elite choice.

See how perfectly that works out? That's great... If you aren't sure what to kit out warriors with, I'd try dakka warriors. Give them 2 devourers with the strength/BS upgrade and you have a S5 creature that shoots 4 times and rerolls EVERYTHING.
I would also suggest giving the genestealer retinue tendrils (it's cheaper), and give the lord acid maw so that he can take down big guys and in the first round of combat. He gets to reroll his hits and wounds, which is an awesome combination. Then the retinue gets to reroll hits and add to the damage.
See what works for you... You definitely are on the right track.

Or another way is to give the broodlord tendrils and the brood acid maw. Lots more chances at rending and you still get to keep the re-rolls.

That's very true, but it gets to be really expensive really quickly... You pay 12 points to give it to the lord, or 4 points per model in the retinue, which if you have the minimum of 5 is already 20 points. Also, since preferred enemy only goes 3" there might be some stealers that don't benefit if you have a huge 10 or 11 man retinue. For my money I do it my way because I've tried both and it seems to work better for me. But whatever works for you that's what you should use.

I'm pretty sure a retinue will count as being close enough that all of them get the Broodlord's Feeder Tendrils. "Any Tyranid brood with a model within 2''..."

Yeah, it applies to the whole brood if even only 1 model is in range. The reason I take the slightly more expensive one is because 8-11 stealers re-rolling hits and wounds is much more effective than just the broodlord re-rolling hits and wounds.

I have a separate brood of genestealers with feeder tendrils, that way the broodlord can give his retinue feeder tendrils while the other brood helps out anyone else in close combat who is nearby (for example my Tyrant in case he gets caught up in CC, or my Hormagaunts if I field them). I may make a brood with acid maw later on, but all in good time. Automatically Appended Next Post: If the brood lasts that long of course, but in my last few battles my genestealers haven't really gotten as torn up as I thought they would.

Just make one or two genestealers with the upgrade, unless you really want to go all out. In order to give an entire squad of 8 GS upgrades it would take what? 4 boxes? And then youre left with 32 other guys anyways.

if you want the upgrade all models in the same brood have to take it. But you're right, it takes a lot of boxes to get all the heads, so just proxy the normal ones for feeder tendrils till you get them.

Dont believe that you can make the dakka warrior variant work, iirc they can only fire one ranged weapon per turn even if you give them two. They arent monstrous creatures and I *think* their listing actually has a note that they can only fire one weapon per turn, if said codex ever can be found again... its drifted off somewhere.
The real problem with warriors is that they are either hq or elites (non winged variants) so they are competing for slots with hive tyrants and cheap point carnies.
Has anyone had any luck playing with wound distribution on warriors ala orc nob bikers?

Why does my eldar army run three fire prisms? Because the rules wont let me use four in (regular 40k). |

Yes but if you give the warriors 2 devourers it states in the codex that they become twin linked. Expensive and short ranged but more reliable than deathspitters.

Actually I was thinking of making a mold out of air drying artist clay or plaster to make the feeder tendril heads out of Green Stuff. Automatically Appended Next Post: Some may call it being cheap, I call it being resourceful.

This is one of those silly rules questions people raise because they are amazed they are not winning so you MUST be reading the rules wrong.
Tyranid Warriors have the Synapse ability, regardless of the slot you take them in.
Similary, Zoanthropes can buy Synapse but they are ALWAYS heavies. They still act as Synapse.
Good luck!

I have the codex, but like other games (Magic: The Gathering for example) the rules can be taken into different contexts depending on how the individual looks at it.

Explain a single train of logic that would lead to the conclusion that warriors only get synapse if they are taken as HQs.
