Hi guys I need your help cooking up a Deathguard list

I rarely play, I'm more of a modeller these days but I like to create armies around playable lists for those rare ocasions.

I'm not looking for uber competitive lists but neither mediocre ones... just need a average fun playable list for my Deathguard.

I already have the models that I wish to built up but I'm really unsure of how to equip them.

So here you go what I have planned so far:

Daemon Prince 165Pts (If better I can take a Lord instead?)
-wings
-mark of nurgle
-nurgle rot

7x Plague marines 256Pts
-champion
-powerfist
-2xMeltas
-rhino

7x Plague marines 256Pts
-champion
-powerfist
-2xMeltas
-rhino

3x Obliterators 225Pts

6x Terminators 205Pts
- reaper autocannon

6x Terminators 205Pts
- reaper autocannon

6x Terminators 185Pts
- heavy flamer

Totalling 1497Pts

Seems pretty solid. I'd consider taking personal icons so that the termies don't scatter if they deploy within 6 inches. Maybe also consider dropping a termie squad for a lord or sorceror in terminator armor to give them some more punch. As long as the Rhino's got there quickly it could be a terrible turn for the recipient of a mass termie deepstrike.

Here's a 1850 pt version I think looks kind of good.

Termie sorceror with wind of chaos and mark of nurgle

2x 5 man termie squads with heavy flamers\

2x 10 man PM squad with 2 meltas and personal icon in stock rhino

1x 9 man PM squad with 2 meltas in stock rhino

3x 2 obliterators or 2x 3 oblits as you see fit.

Seems pretty solid, but i would watch those plague marines and keep them safe while playing, if i was playing an objective game with you, i would take out your plague marines with some heavy weapons, so it makes it near impossible for you too win, unless you kill my whole army, so an extra deathguard squad would help you alot, IMHO.

I was thinking about maybe replacing the meltas in the PM squads with flamers for anti horde punch. This would also buy up the points to add an extra PM to the squad with only 9 and give that squad an icon as well.

There seems to be plenty of anti tank firepower from the oblits.

Any thoughts?

Navarro, definitely keep the Daemon Prince. There simply isn't a better option for an HQ in the Chaos codex. I would give him warptime over nurgle's rot, but I play a bit more competitive, so I never take anything power but warptime. Plus I really want to see you build a Nurgle Daemon Prince. My mind races with the amazing possibilities!

Everything else looks pretty good. I think RAC's area too expensive personally, for the cost you could get 5 combi-weapons per squad. I think I would probably go with 1 PF and 3 combi weapons, for them. Melta if you want to deepstrike them near enemy armor or plasma if you want mid range fire support.

I'd like to see another PM squad in the list, but since you already have all the models there's not much point suggesting another, unless you up the army to 1,750.

Now get to work, I want to see some pics in the P&M board ASAP!

You can never beat your first time. The second generation is shinier, stronger, faster and superior in every regard save one, and it's an unfair criticism to level, but it simply can't be as original. - Andy Chambers, on the evolution of Games Workshop games

Thanks for the tips guys

Following overall idea that i really need a extra Plaguemarine unit I builted a second list... I barelly managed to squeeze it in but I lost some gear in the process...
Do you think the extra squad justifies dropping most of gear on the army?

So here you go:

Plague marines x7 -226Pts
-2x plasmas
-rhino

Plague marines x7 -211Pts
-2x flamers
-Icon
-rhino

Plague marines x7 -206Pts
-2x flamers
-rhino

Terminators x5 -155Pts
-Heavy flamer

Terminators x5 -155Pts
-Heavy flamer

Terminators x5 -155Pts
-Heavy flamer

Obliterators x3 - 225Pts

Daemon Prince 165Pts
-wings
-mark of nurgle
-nurgle rot

Totalling 1498Pts

So in short I dropped champions and powerfists on Plaguemarines squads, dropped 1 terminator per squad and all reaper autocannons... but managed to include another plague marine squad to help out.
Is it more balanced now?

Well, I'd take a 10 men Terminator squad with MoN, two reaper autocannons, and two chain fists.
This is definitely a scary unit.
This eventually frees some points to include another Obliterator.

To me 10 terminators in a squad is a little to much. They would be in big trouble against something like a vindicator shot.

True, but you eventually have some other units that can deal with Vindicators, like Obliterators.
Synergy is key.

O H I am in the Webway...

The list is pretty good. I might try to sneak a chainfist in each of the terminator squads.

Do you want to DS or walk the terminators? I think that one of the Flamer PM squads need to be meltas. Even Melta / Flamer PM squads would be ok.

If you DS the termies you need some icons or personal icons.

If the Termies deep strike, they should have some combi-meltas just in case they get close to a tank.
