Hello Dakka,

this question came up when I read the painboy thread in the last days.

The rules say "A scout can receive [...] a sniper rifle". (Retranslated from german, so maybe it isn't the exact wording.)
I intuitively assumed, hey, that sarge is a scout, too, so he can take a rifle! Apart from that, those scouts-with-sniper-rifles come in a five-man-box, which is minimum scout squad size, so I thought one of them would be the sergeant and, wielding a sniper rifle, it would be okay.

However, after this painboy stuff, I think the rules are quite clear that he can NOT take a sniper rilfe, because he has this whole list of "the sergeant can receive [blah blah weapons blah]" in his army list entry, his own "sergeant" profile and so on.

Your opinions on that topic?

Any model may replace his boltgun with:

Since the Sergeant is a model, I'm pretty sure RaW says yes, he can have a sniper rifle.

Army Builder lets you give the sergeant a sniper rifle.

The codex says that any model can exchange boltgun for sniper rifle. The sergeant has a boltgun, so he can exchange it for a sniper rifle.

Thanks for your quick answers!

Well, the german codex says "Jeder Scout darf seinen Bolter ersetzen durch:" --> "Any scout can replace his bolter for:". So they translated "model" to "scout", what lead to the confusion on my part. Thanks for clearing that up, dakka is brilliant when you need some opinions or clarifications on stuff.

Ah, wasn't aware of errata at the moment. Will go right to the GW page and look up what has changed. Thanks

retranslated?

If we look into a german dex=>
There was an errata 1 week after codex release.

Now worded " model". This includes the Seargent.

Just to let you know, that doesn't mean anything. Army Builder has Errors, and using it to back up a rules argument is asinine to the extreme. Just a friendly reminder

Oh gawd...

The army builder is about as accurate as a Helen Keller was with a rifle at 600 yards.

A new day, a new time zone.

I didn't know Helen Keller was a certified sniper. Better add that to the wiki.
